I didnt know republicans smoked
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2114278/posts

From the posts from the readers looks like most of them smoke. I was surprised because I once saw a poll about decriminalizing weed and they were trying to vote it down. But if most of them like it then what is the hold up on getting it legal?

3. Pretty much everybody I know smokes
or used to smoke, or doesn't have a problem with people who smoke (and yes, I'm not talking cigarettes here. :)

Maybe it's the part of the country where I live, or the people I hang with. I'm not the most conservative person. lol

Still, the fact stands: I know far, far more smokers than non-smokers these days, and lots of them are hard-working, professional people. And yes, some of them are Republicans.

4. I havent met any
Not where I live. Every republican I've ever known has been super anti drug but the only conservatives I know are old people. Good thing most young people I know arent republicans.

5. Well, I will clarify and say that I don't know
anyone in my parents' age group (60ish - 70ish) who smokes, but that may be because I don't interact with that generation as much.

But folks from their 50s on down, yep. Lots and lots of smokers. Some only smoke occasionally, some do it much more frequently. Some used to smoke and quit for various reasons, but don't have a problem with other people who still smoke.

It may be a regional thing. My former husband was from Butler, PA, and he said he never knew anybody who smoked until he came to WV.

6. DEA bureaucracy
The DEA will do anything to keep drugs prohibited. If there was legalization, everyone in the DEA would be out of a job.

7. That's the sad thing, they may worry for nothing
Maybe they wouldn't be. What if it was regulated instead of illegal? That would offer us any level of control we wanted to enforce depending on the specifics of the drug in question, anything from retail to prescription only, and they could just shift into a regulatory agency instead of prohibition.

Pretending we can make them just go away doesn't work and right now the only "regulators" are the dealers. Surely we can do better than that.

8. I know about 2 republicans who smoke
They are very young and very uninformed. It really shocks me they bash Obama and liberals and listen to Rush. I don't think they realize their hero John McCain supports mandatory sentencing for drug dealers when some of their friends are drug dealers. I avoid talking politics because I hate to hear their backwards logic. I tried to introduce drug policy and state where actual liberals stand on the policy and one tells me he doesn't care because he can get pot anytime he wants. They don't follow current events, they just work shit jobs, play video games, go dirt bike riding, and smoke weed and drink alcohol.
