My Catholic mother

I've been utterly stunned.

My 75 year old mother, who goes to mass every day, was talking with my 95-year old uncle (my dad's brother) and his wife (85 years old), who also attend mass every day, about the election. All three of them supported Obama and even turned a few other family members into Obama supporters. They had all voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004. The subject of abortion had come up, and my mother proclaimed, out of the blue (and my aunt and uncle voiced their wholehearted agreement) that she believed, "That's a person's own choice, between herself and her own conscience. They (the Church) had me brainwashed for a while, but not any more!"

She still believes in God, and Jesus, and the Church, and Heaven and Hell, but her eyes have been opened! I am so extremely proud of all of them!

is so at peace with Obama's election. Still don't know who she and dad voted for but they are sounding actually pretty happy.
