AURORA -- Pro-choice advocates plan to picket outside of a pro-life rally tonight here, saying they want Planned Parenthood staff to know they support a clinic coming to Aurora's far East Side.
Planned Parenthood is opening a full-service women's health center on 3.24 acres at 240 N. Oakhurst Drive in the DuPage County section of Aurora. The health center is scheduled to open Sept. 18.
A 40-day pro-life vigil started Aug. 9 at the center because it will offer abortion services.
"We wanted to make sure that people know that we welcome the Planned Parenthood clinic to this community," Bonnie Grabenhofer, president of the Illinois chapter of the National Organization for Women, told The Beacon-News Wednesday. "A number of people think it's really good for the community."
Members of the Illinois and DuPage County chapters of NOW plan to picket outside of a pro-life rally regarding the health center.
Pro-Life Action League leaders have scheduled a meeting for 7 p.m. today at the Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave., to rally support against the health center.
