Anybody remember newspapers that printed women’s names who had visited health clinics?

I seem to recall some southern newspaper wanting to do this. Was this ever a threatened tactic back in the 70’s?

(This would help settle an argument between me and a CRW type I work with)

Years ago, in the days of Ashcroft as Governor, St. Louis decided that naming women who had had an abortion in the newspapers was a good idea. I was so outraged that I got up a petition that said that if the newspapers printed the names of women, they also had to print the names of those who fathered the children. Can you imagine how frightening that thought was to some men (especially married men). It never happened because better judgement won out.

I've tried looking for more info - but no luck - perhaps the papers that wanted to do this were so ashamed, they've purged their archives.
