Anyone else in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest?
Info here:
http://www.amazon.com/abna/

I was fortunate to make it to the second round but I'm on tenterhooks over whether I'll make it to the quarterfinals, which will be announced on March 22, an eternity from now. Anyone else in the same boat?

2. Congratulations. I entered for the third time and still never made it
past the pitch stage, so I bow to you.

:applause:

What is your entry and do you post to the ABNA forum?

Best of luck.

3. I've never posted in the ABNA forum
I'm on Authonomy though, where the book is mostly ignored. It's called "The Brickweavers". Sci-fi set 4,000 years ago in what is present-day southern Libya. It's about an oppressed people and their struggle for justice. What's your book about?

4. I put mine on Kindle already. It's The Medicinal Martini. I'm VD on the ABNA forum.

I poke in there every so often, even though I'm out of the running.

I went to authonomy and read this:
The Thujwani have mastered the forces of magnetism and gravity but discord arises among their elite as they take the first steps toward empire.

What's so funny is that my mid-century murder mystery (more cozy than anything else) starts off with my mc talking about gravity. The last graf in the book has him talking about gravity *and* magnetism (and the weak force and the strong force). It really doesn't have anything to do with the story. I just wanted to pull in unified/string theory because a character in the book loves string art.

I'd like to say I'd read the book (it looks very interesting), but time is soooo limited now.
Best of luck to you on the 22nd!

5. Sounds intriguing
I just bought a Kindle and need to get around to using it. That time thing you spoke about. I'll check it out.

The list came out today. Any DUers make it?

7. Sorry to hear it. Maybe next year. Heck, maybe next year I'll make it past the pitch stage.

I need to get a Kindle, too.

As far as other DUers, I only know of one DUer who posts to ABNA. A-Schwarzenegger on DU is Richard Martin on ABNA. I didn't see his name on the quarterfinal lists.

8. The pitch stage is a real crapshoot
You could probably make the first cut next year without changing it, or so I am told by some of the Authonomy folks who have gotten different results in different years with the same spiel.
One good thing about not making the cut: I'm free to submit now. My book won't be tied up till the next, nerve-racking stage. So I was able to take advantage of Angry Robot's "Open Door Month". During the month of March only, they are accepting unsolicited, unagented submissions. They are strictly Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror and my book seemed to fit what they were looking for. We'll see.
