The Future of Publishing?
Hi! I don't post here, but this article was posted elsewhere on DU, and didn't get much traction. I figured it was perfect for this group. It's about the future (and past) of publishing, especially with the growth of e-publishing.

1. Thanks for the insight on content.
E-publishing is changing the whole publishing business. It will be interesting (and hopefully lucrative) to see how it shakes out. :hi:

2. I've been turning this over in my head, and ultimately I have to say that I don't quite buy it
There's a "Chicken Little" tone to the article that I find a bit off-putting, but more damning is the fact that his whole "you're not paying for content" argument reads basically like that old joke about how you can't have a day off because, mathematically, you only work one day per year anyway.

I started to write a much longer rant about it, but in the end I decided not to bother. I can elaborate if anyone's interested, but I can sum up by saying that Graham strikes me as a current-day Toffler railing against a too-soon tomorrow when, in fact, a whole generation (at the very least) was already taking in stride the very insupportable future that he imagined would destroy society.
