Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves installment 4

Jose and the Coats of many Colors
as told by Ravenna

We had been invited to a party in North Beach; the “we”, being Me, Jose, Markita and Brenda.. I really don’t know which of us was invited (and invited the others), but I think Markita was the likeliest.
It was rare for fags to co mingle across the many class and taste distinctions we chose to set ourselves apart, nevertheless, four Haight Ashbury queers arrived in the heart of North Beach during a cold winter night in the early 70’s
I remember that the people at the party were very nice and, the place was well appointed without being too, too. I remember tropical fruits, appetizing appetizers, and drinking blue moons. Of course, I had eaten Quaaludes, we all had.
Sitting in the main room, I was impatient for the action and decided to “let the games begin”, myself. There was a cut dark haired girl at the party; fag parties usually having a stray girl or two. I turned to the defenseless Brenda on my left and said, “ should I begin with her?” Brenda knowing full well the horrors that might follow said “Oh No!” Well, I went right over to the girl, cozied up, and just as the Quaaludes started hitting home runs, asked in my most gentle voice “Do you like sucking cock?” The girl, a little undone responded nervously “Well I really haven’t done it very often”. I gave her a Quaalude and proceeded to tell her that Joey (Brenda) is a drop dead good looking Italian with a huge dick that loves to be blown by girls. Believing this lie, and charged by Quaalude, I led her over to a wary Brenda, and let chemistry take its course
Time passed; part of the magic of those days was the elasticity of time. Fucked by drugs, magic and love, time itself became stoned- moments stretched into hours, hours eclipsed to minutes. I was having a pleasant enough time feeling up a cut dark haired guy when a nervous Carmen insisted on seeing me alone. By now, I was very high and events either stand out in utter clarity, or not at all. Carmen insisted that we must all leave at once. Since she had driven, this did have some meaning. I remember resisting and demanding an explanation, and Carmen, realizing only shock treatment would work on me at this point, took me out to the car and opened the trunk. There, like sunken treasure, were coats, yes coats. Coats of many colors and textures. There was leather, fur cashmere suede, wool and god know what else. There were many.
Immediately grasping the gravity of the situation, I went to collect Brenda and the girl (why should the games end simply because of yet another crime by Jose?), and Jose went to collect Marquita.
We made a very hasty exit, and off to the Haight. By Now, the girl was very ripped, and as I hoped and encouraged was now deeply hooked on poor Joey who looked like a political prisoner on his way to interrogation. “I feel like Warren Beatty in ‘Shampoo’” Joey suddenly screamed.Joey arranged for Jose to take the girl with him and Mark when they dropped us off at Stanyan St.The coats were in the trunk.
It has been fifteen years or so, and I have never been invited to a party in North Beach since.
