Tribute to Ed Gard aka oneighty

I see from the posts here that Ed passed on a couple of months ago. I am a long haul trucker and I only heard of Ed's passing a couple of weeks ago when I visited a DUer when I was out on the road. The sense of loss and the tears are still fresh. Ed was my hero. When I read his books "Kazuko" and "Voyages of the Vicky Mary" I was so impressed that I felt that I had to tell everybody about it. I posted in the lounge that oneighty had shown me the treasure that is hidden within all of us. It is our life experience. Ed was very modest about it and I don't think he liked all the attention that he got which was classic Ed. He got a lot of requests for his books after that post which is probably how some of you here found out about his work. Ed did not think very highly of his writing. I tried to push him to get the works published and he told me that he was not interested in any commercial value that his books might have, he wrote them mainly for his kids and his grandkids.

I never got to meet Ed in person and it was something that I wanted to do. Like I said, he was my hero. He is the reason that I still write. I don't think I've ever posted anything here in the writer's forum. I post my little stories over in the lounge. Some day I hope to have enough of those little stories to put together a little book. It will be dedicated to the memory of Ed Gard who showed me the treasure within all of us.
