19. The writing part took over 16 months
and I am still working with my editor to iron out some rough spots. The reasearch part started two years prior, however, I also did research as I wrote at the beginning so there is a little overlap.

20. That's a big time commitment.
Were you able to work on it daily, or was it spread out in bits and pieces?

21. I worked pretty consistently
My goal was 10 pages a week and I made it most of the time. I had to write late, after the family was asleep, so I started flaming out most nights at 2AM or so.

22. Yeah, that's my problem too.
I can maybe write an hour a day, when the kids aren't around. A lot of my time is spent typing up notes and bits I've written on the bus on the way to work.

23. Mrs. McLargehuge was pretty understanding
I had a deal with her that I could have 4 hours of writing time on either Saturday or Sunday depending on which day I had to shovel horse shit out of the barn. These became my most productive times.

You can certainly write during "stolen moments" and still make good headway, just try and get your groove on earlier. I used to need 7 good solid hours, two to warm up, three in the groove, and two to warm down and edit. Now I can accomplish as much in half that. I just had to learn how to maximize my time the keyboard. So, when I couldn't write because I had to be doing something else, like modding the lounge or changing diapers, I thought about where I was in the book, where I wanted to go next, what my last sentence was, and what my next sentence would be. So I worked into the groove before I even sat down.

Once I sat down, chose the correct mood music, I was off.

24. Yeah, I find the actual writing time to be transcription time.
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 02:13 PM by Wat_Tyler
Usually, I've worked out what's going to happen in my head, or in my notes, or - if I'm very lucky, I let it roll out of my subconcious. Most of the time I'm trying to avoid consciously writing.
