2. UT #1
Guess you get what you pay for - reminds me of old joke (in Texas) that OU had the best college football team money can buy...

Also, when Switzer came to the Cowboys he had to learn to build a team with a salary cap...

Anyway, I seem to recall a few years ago, a similar situation where OSU was #1 in final football poll and UT was #2, s/w controversially. These numbers must be the reason?

3. UT is Number One in revenue

Longhorns earn No. 1 ranking … in revenue

By John Maher | Tuesday, June 16, 2009, 11:18 AM

They’ll be trying for a No. 1 ranking in football soon enough. But first, the University of Texas ranks atop the list of college athletics’ top revenue producers, according to analysis in the current issue of SportsBusiness Journal. PDF of college revenue rankings, 2007-08.

Texas topped the lists in both total revenue ($120 million) and football revenue ($72.9 million), which were based on Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act documents filed by each school to the U.S. Department of Education. The numbers are for the 2007-08 school year, the latest data available.

Accounting practices at each school may vary so the list may not be as precise as it sounds, but the schools with the biggest football stadiums do tend to fare well by any measure.

Ohio State ($117.9 million) was second, followed by Florida ($106 million), Michigan ($99 million) and Wisconsin ($93.4 million).

6. Interestingly only seven of the PAC-10 teams reported their numbers.
USC was not one of them.

UCLA led the PAC-10 with $64 million.
