Cain now 8-1 as Giants roll 9-4
Matt Cain didn't have one of his better outings but, thanks to Pablo Sandoval going 4 for 5 with a long HR and a 17 hit Giant attack, his 6.1 innings of 4 run 6 hit baseball was good enough for him to tie for the NL lead in wins with his victory over the Diamondbacks.

Matt remains on track for an All Star game appearance and it sure looks like his luck has changed over the past couple of years when he couldn't get any run support.

2. Here's something interesting..
Jason Marquis 8-4 ERA: 3.98

Matt Cain 8-1 ERA: 2.55

Marquis is a journeyman pitcher, slightly above average but nothing special. OTOH, Matt Cain is one of the best young hurlers in baseball..there's not a team in either league that wouldn't like to have him.

4. ERA means nothing at Coors Field.
Nobody keeps the runs down here. Not even the humidor.

5. Marquis does not have a good ERA pitching on teams that don't play in coors
I think his career ERA is a 4.52.

He a decent third or fourth starter though. Wouldn't exactly call him a stopper.

3. Matt Cain is a good pitcher but he plays in the uber week west

That kind of helps his numbers a bit. He doesn't have to worry about pitching against the beasts in AL East or the Phillies and Atlanta 18 times a year. I have no idea how this guy hasn't pitched a game this season against LA.

The schedule through the course of the year tends to balance things out. I don't know why in baseball they make such a big deal over pitchers W-L before the All Star break. One of the more absurd aspects of the game today. Then they act all surprised when a pitcher with 12 or so wins at the all star break bottoms out the rest of the way and finishes 15-8.

7. I'm not complaining
I'm stating a fact. But good for Cain blanking a Mets team that feilded a AAA caliber line up. Pretty much proves my point.

But listent to the Giants fan scrounge for an insult after dropping 3-4 to the Mets.

You should embrace the hip culture aspect of losing,

8. I will admit it was nothing like facing the Philadelphia Phillies.
A much better offensive team.
