Lost a C-note on Dunkirks nose but had it backed up with a tri box and an Exacta box---both 2 dollar boxes. Thoses we two very easy boxes to win.

Dissapointed the Grey stallion lost but made enough to take the old lady out for the night.

Although I would have been as glad as anyone else to see Borel do it, and as admiring as anyone of his riding skill, I could not understand all the hoop-la, as if it were in some way a compensation for a horse doing it. It wasn't. The jock gets to choose, the horse doesn't.

By the time the race rolled around, I was convinced MTB would not win - while Wooley was saying he was relaxed and sleeping, the shot they kept showing of him was his OCD looking head-bobbing at his stall dooor. And Borel looked nervous all day. I wish he'd chosen to ride some races at Belmont.

Dunkirk put in a pretty impressive performance. Glad you made some money.

I couldn't believe the first post race interview was with Borel and not Desormeaux.

I'm like enough already with Borel....

8. Borel made a mistake in the week leading up to the race.

He got arrogant and thought he did not need to get to know the track. He figured his
25 years experience on mile tracks would suit him just fine. He rode the Belmont
as if he was at Churchill Downs. He made his move too soon just like KD did in '98.

Belmont is not like any track in the country. The backside goes on forever and the turns
are huge sweeping things.

Also, Wooley made the mistake of going back to KY after the Preakness. No horse has won
the Belmont that did not train here. Tim Ice had his horse here for three weeks and he
was familiar with the whole thing. He also spent several mornings chatting about things
with Billy Turner out by the gap on the main track. Smart man. I wish well.

That said, I love Chip Wooley. He was a breath of fresh air in our business and I'm glad
people got to know him. He is smart enough that if given another good horse, he will
know what to do next time.

9. Yes, I agree on Wooley

He is a breath of fresh air and I thought quite gracious throughout in his public pronouncemnts, during all the jockey switching and under all the scutiny. I was puzzled too by his not taking Bird to the Belmont track - he seemed to know its history in terrms of how it tended to play out for closers, etc.

However, it was a good, exciting race, nice to see Dunkirk really jump up after that Derby, and how amazing is it that two different Birdstone colts win TC races in the same year? (I was reading all week in different columns that Summer Bird was a good bet, looks like they were right). Also nice for that young trainer.

10. Woolley is a great ambassador...

we need more like him and less of the Pletcher/Frankel types.
