What are your 2009 NFL season thoughts? I predict the
sacks will return to South Florida.

No easy schedule this year.

1. 8-8 for Miami.
They have the toughest schedule in the league next year, with just one opponent that had a below .500 record last year (Jacksonville). They made huge strides last year, but the schedule is brutal. I don't think they'll have anything to be ashamed about though.

The Pats may struggle as well as they have the 3rd toughest schedule (and the toughest since Belichick has been coaching them). They're still weak on defense, though they should be improved over last year. But a healthy Brady is still a huge advantage (watch the clips tomorrow out of Foxborough...he's feeling 100% healthy and tomorrow will be the first time cameras will be allowed to see him in action since the injury). 11-5, maybe even 10-6, but that should be good enough to win the division.

The 49ers will be improved (excellent draft pick) but still have a ways to go. 6-10, maybe 7-9. They showed some good signs down the stretch last year, and hopefully can follow up on that. I haven't seen their schedule, so that could change my prediction.

The Lions will win 2 games, probably by accident.

Chicago was instantly improved with the Cutler at QB, though he may not have a lot of targets to choose from. The Vikes, Packers and Bears will all be in the hunt for the division and have close records to one another.

The Giants will win the Super Bowl if no one shoots themselves in the leg near the end of the season.

T.O. will wait until game 3 before complaining about the lack of balls being thrown his way, ignoring the fact that he drops a third of the ones that are.

The Raiders will still suck unless Al Davis dies between now and August.

And only one Dallas Cowboy will arrested during the season.

3. LOL...a flake got in his eyes, which will be the QB's fault, naturally.
We should start a pool on which week his whining will begin.

Cowboys haters just can't seem to come up with any original material. It's the same recycled crap over and over again.

How pathetisad.

6. The Bucs go 6 & 10 or worse.
It's hard to say what will happen in the AFC South. Any one of these teams could finish last or first. If I have to guess right now I'd say

1 Atlanta
2 New Orleans
3 Carolina
4 Tampa

8. lawl Steelers 29th in strength of schedule
I predict the Steelers will be back in the playoffs at the very least...hard to say at this point anything past that. If last year though they won the Super Bowl after playing the hardest schedule in the NFL in history, they should at least do that well this year with the 29th in strength of schedule.

13. Traditionalists?
Don't you mean Lions fans? Many of the rest of us have become bored by Detroit's inability to remain competitive..

One thing the NFL cares about is ratings and last year's Lions/Titans game had the lowest in at least 7 years. If the Detroit franchise doesn't straighten up, they'll have that Thanksgiving tradition ripped away from them....there's already been grumbling and a least one proposal for a revolving Thanksgiving day host.

You're probably bored with turkey for dinner on Thanksgiving, too. Maybe you can start rotating in hot dogs, pizza, and Chinese food.

15. I could care less about tradition
if nobody liked turkey enough to buy it, the tradition would soon end. Well, right now, not enough people are buying what the Lions are selling.

There is one saving grace in all this...the NFL has had the good sense to add a third game.

16. Obviously you don't care about tradition
There's a whole weekend packed with games. There's really no reason T-Day has to change. It's just a question of the haves wanting more than they've already got.

22. Seriously, what is the source of the hostility?
Like Detroit hasn't had enough bad things happen, you want to take away one of their best traditions?

WHY?

I really, really don't get the "kick 'em when they're down" philosophy.

25. He's a San Francisco Elitist more concerned about drug addled steroid users
than the good folks of Detroit. I'm sure he also hates the fact that Detroit has hosted the Super Bowl and the Bay Area and BALCO has never hosted a Super Bowl, or even a College Bowl game.

The little heads are exploding that Jerry Jones Memorial Stadium will be hosting the Super Bowl in a couple of years!

Jealousy really does eat away at your heart, and they are the perfect example.

Also 14 year olds don't understand "tradition".

28. Because it's just sports and nobody is looking at things from
a humanitarian point of view.

How does Detroit deserve the game because the people are down because of the economy in Michigan? That's essentially what you've argued. Detroit deserves the tradition because the people have been through so much.

Am I supposed to be a New Orleans Saints fan because of what all the people went through during Katrina?

Am I supposed to root for the Yankees because of 9/11?

Am I supposed to root the the Virginia Tech football team instead of Tennessee because of the shooting on campus there?

I mean, don't you see the road you start traveling down when you argue teams deserve things based on anything other than performance?

All of us who want to see good, competitive football on Thanksgiving simply want that. It has nothing to do with having Detroit as part of the game or not.

The bottom line is the Lions are the worst franchise in the NFL, if not professional sports, and nobody wants to watch a crappy game with them involved.

And the ratings back that up.

They didn't win a single game last year. How can anyone want them back on the schedule this year?

Nobody does, except a few die hard Lions fans.

11. As a Lions fan, it's hard to top last year.

We were perfect. It's only up from here. Hopefully our new QB can mature without getting killed and our draft picks pan out. I hate the TE picked so high, but a lot of smart people said it was a good pick, so I'll reserve judgement.
Our coach looks like a winner. At leasT he didn't hire any family members to be coordinators...Gawd, I still hate Marinelli so much it hurts...

All they have to do is be better than Denver (no defense and now no Jay Cutler), Kansas City (are they ever a threat), and Oakland (Al Davis and his 4x100 relay team).

That said, 6 wins should be enough to win this division.
