Red Sox and/or Baseball Fans--Warning, Puke Alert
"I think President Bush would love to grab a beer with us and kick back, go hunting for pheasant, that type of stuff. I think he would mix in well with us."
-- Johnny Damon

And another: "Oh, it's going to be great. I've always been a huge fan of his and also his father," Damon said. "I always thought his father got a raw deal. He was never able to do the things he wanted to in office. George W. Bush, I think he's done a great job. I can't wait to meet him."

:wtf: :puke: :puke: :puke:

1. CUT them some SLACK
Whaddaya gonna do????

There is a saying in Irish Boston, and it applies to other neighborhoods and ethnicities as well: if ya can't say anything nice about someone, don't say anything at all.

Now, if Johnny D was praising the chimp's negotiating skills, or his ability to bring diverse nations together, I'd be worried. But he's just a party dog, and he's being polite--remember, a huge percentage of the fan base lives up in Maine, which is big Bush land....

Hey, he could drop trou and crap in the Rose Garden, but why bother? Bottom line is, the only thing the weecowboy ever actually worked at was baseball...he sold Sosa, but at least he showed up, picked his nose, and signed autographs at those TX games. Pity he didn't stay in that line of work...baseball is great, but not essential to life....and less important than issues that deal with Nuke-Yew-Lar weapons!!!!!

Here's hoping Johnny Damon manages to get a few beers in the weecowboy...and then films it for later viewing on the Fenway jumbotron!

2. Gannon...Damon...The Chimp loves to get sucked off.
Man that's sickening and pathetic. Why doesn't he just go ahead and praise the fragrance of the great Chimp's flatulence which is known to cure cancer. Yeah, it's too bad Poppy couldn't do what Chimp is doing now. What a douche. He could have said "I'm honored." and let it go but this fool has to gush effusive praise that just showcases his ignorance.

3. Speaking as a Sox fan...
...I honestly don't care.

The fact is, if you're going to rely on professional athletes for political guidance, you're a hopeless case, anyway. Most of them are pretty right-wing. And why not? You are talking about a group of people who, by and large, have gotten by on physical gifts and instinct rather than sustained logical thought. The vast majority of star athletes who attended college skated by on a steady diet of just-easy-enough courses to meet the minimum NCAA eligibility requirements, and dropped out as soon as their playing time was over (which, in many cases, meant after they jumped to the pros following their second or third season). Baseball players are likely to be even less formally-educated than that, since most sign with a pro team just after high school. For all that, they're paid well almost from the start, and a player in "the bigs" who manages to stay there for a number of years is guaranteed, barring any foolish investments, to be financially set for life.

Think about it: physically strong, not too educated, rich. Why would anyone expect them not to be Republicans?

But, then again, Hollywood is supposed to be filled with leftists, and, while I certainly enjoy the pronouncements of a Tim Robbins or Barbara Stresiand, I don't look to them for profound political analysis, either.

7. But, I remember being a child. You?
And, I idolized some of the baseball heroes of my youth.

Used to pretend I WAS a pro player when I played, whomever was my current fav.

And, will you encourage YOUR child to emulate Damon? Schilling?

Personally, describing republicans as "physically strong...why shouldn't they be Republican", to me, is nonsense.

They are republican because they make too much money, and do not want to PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE of taxes.

That's for us "masses", not uneducated bitches swinging a bat for multi-millions.

We're here to fund their places of work.

So, it might not matter to you, but it pisses me off to no end.

A president unelected, fraudulently placed in office, and no problemo if you are a red sox fan?

Please.

6. John Kerry's duck-hunting expedition...
I sort of remember the pheasant-hunter John Kerry out on the range courtesy of one Robert Shrum.

Makes me laugh.

18. What's to laugh about? Kerry shot real wild game
unlike Cheney, who picked off just-released fowl in a set-up as if he were in a shooting gallery.
What's the problem? Kerry was the true hunter. Cheney the fake.

8. Wow!
This is why most ballplayers keep it close to the vest. Damon just dropped his advertising personality stock big time, and for what?

10. Jesus christ do we have to view EVERYTHING through a political lens?
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 12:08 PM by Redneck Socialist
This guy plays baseball and he plays it pretty damn well. I'll continue to look to Damon and the rest of the "idiots" to entertain me for a couple of hours on a summer night and I'll continue to not care what his political persuasion is.

If he were actively campaigning for chimpy, actively trying to persuade me to support the chimp that's a different story. If anything all this points out is how well Gee Dubya plays the 'aw shucks, Ima justa good ol'boy' act. It fools a lot of people.

I'll look to Johnny for tips on how to field pop flys and perhaps hair conditioners, but I'll get my political opinions from better informed sources. If Johnny shows up on Meet the Press perhaps I'll change my tune, but until then...PLAY BALL!

On Edit: Now if he were a Yankee...

12. Of course Sox fans don't care when their guys like Bush, but...
...damn it to hell if it's a Yankee. So what if Johnny-boy would have a beer with him, or if Curt "Shill"ing stumps the guy after the WS? But look out if A-Rod throws money to his campaign. They'll scream to high heaven and curse the bum till doomsday.

Hypocrites.

15. hey
Schilling took a LOT of heat in NE for that. Don't act like all sox fans love this guy. Most of us admire what he can do, but are heartily sick of him spouting off on everything.

as for Johnny Damon, the idiot thing? that's not a joke. The man might actually be retarded.

13. Fuck Damon, double fuck that asshole Schilling
Event will be on CSPAN - received from boston.com

RED SOX UPDATE: President Bush is now awarding a Congressional gold medal posthumously to Jackie Robinson at a ceremony in Washington attended by the baseball great’s family. He will also honor the Red Sox this afternoon as the World Series champs visit the White House. Manny Ramirez was excused from the trip because his grandmother is sick. Bronson Arroyo will not be attending because his wife is ill. Live coverage of the Sox visit is expected to begin shortly. --Developing

16. According to OPENSECRETS.ORG
George Steinbrenner gave $2K to Bush....and nothing to Kerry.

So, you're gonna find the GOP in baseball. It ain't surprising, and I won't let them ruin the game for me.

As for the White House visit by the champions, why should they be the first team in modern history NOT to attend this annual event?

21. Well, they are "a bunch of idiots". Maybe he would mix in with them.
Think of the advantages! No need to dig yourself out of a 3-0 hole when you've got pinch-voter Bush** (No. 43 :-) ) and his custom-made Diebold bat!! </sarcasm>
