NFL's Legacy Games to honor 50th anniversary
<snip>

"National Football League teams will stage 16 Legacy Games during the 2009 season to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of eight clubs that were founding members of a rival league back in 1960.

The special slate, including 11 games between those eight teams, will find players wearing throwback uniforms in the style of the 1960s American Football League (AFL) outfits.

The AFL which began in 1960 was absorbed in 1970 after the rivals split the first four Super Bowls.

Original AFL clubs celebrating a 50th season include the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots.

The Titans were known as the Houston Oilers while the Chiefs were founded as the Dallas Texans, the Jets as the New York Titans and the Patriots were known as the Boston Patriots.

Later AFL clubs that joined the NFL in the merger included the Miami Dolphins, founded in 1966, and Cincinnati Bengals, who began play in 1968.

Legacy games begin with the first pre-season matchup between Buffalo and Tennessee on August 9 at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

The first Monday night of the season, September 14, will feature two Legacy Games as Buffalo will visit new England and San Diego will play at Oakland."

"I’ve noticed on the message boards and in the comments that many of you are wondering if the Broncos will don their “throwback” jerseys any time this season — the 50th anniversary of the team and the AFL.

Well, it has just been formally announced from the NFL Annual Meeting in Dana Point, Calif., that the original eight AFL teams — the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs (then the Dallas Texans), New England Patriots (then the Boston Patriots), New York Jets (then the Titans of New York), Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans (then the Houston Oilers) — will play head-to-head in one home and one away “Legacy Games” to honor the anniversary.

As a part of those games, the teams will each wear their original jerseys. That means the Broncos will don their 1960 jersey — a brown and yellow uniform with a brown helmet — twice. You can see Head Coach Josh McDaniels holding up an example of the jersey at the top of this blog."

I think white is the "road" version.

6. It's the socks, man!
They burned them in the middle of the field at the end of the season.

BTW, I can't wait to see the old Dallas Texans again. They were so much better than the Cowboys. But Dallas wasn't big enough for the two of them, so Lamar Hunt moved them to KC.

8. also, the Chargers started in Los Angeles

The Bills and the Broncos are the only original AFL teams that never moved or changed their names.

It'll be fun to see the throwback uniforms, though the Broncos socks sure are ugly

10. Patriot Pat was great
And so was the placid Buffalo.

In fact, that's the most insane switch of all, Buffalo getting rid of the classic blue color scheme and simple logo for the current crap. At least I can understand New England, Tampa Bay and Denver rationalizing the newer garb after winning championships with it.
