2. The way the OU/Texas deal is going, I guarantee you one thing.
The clamor for a playoff will be huge, I say, HUGE. Don't forget USC.

3. The Harris Poll has Texas 6 points ahead of OU
Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 04:09 PM by fishwax
That means Texas needs a tie (or better) in the computer ratings, and Oklahoma needs at least a .01 advantage.

1 Alabama (107) 12-0 2,815
2 Florida (4) 11-1 2,619
3 Texas (1) 11-1 2,575
4 Oklahoma 11-1 2,569
5 USC 10-1 2,378

5. Switzer said the computers put us on top
Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 04:48 PM by OKNancy
Last week the coach's poll had OK at 2, so that probably didn't change

EDIT to Add: BCS has Oklahoma at #2.

7. Yep -- we wound up with a .04 advantage in the computer rankings
and that was enough to overcome Texas's thin advantage in the human polls.

From what I understand, the computers look very highly on road wins against highly-ranked teams, so beating OSU on the road made all the difference ...

10. I woulda gone with Texas, personally - placing more weight on head2head @ neutral field...
But you can't go wrong with either.

11. The BCS is a cancer
Oregon coach Mike Bellotti wasn't too far off when he likened the two.

I don't care for either Texas or OU, so I'm coming at this from an unbiased viewpoint.... on a neutral field the Longhorns beat the Sooners by 10 points, Texas is getting screwed.

12. So fucking what?
And Texas Tech beat Texas, why are they not ranked ahead of Texas?

Oklahoma had a much better non conference schedule. They beat TCU and Cincinnati which are ranked in the top 15.

14. It is, and those that truly think OU should be above UT are deluded fools
The case for Texas is as follows:

1. UT lost on the last play of the last game of a consecutive 4-game stretch of top-11 teams. Had they pulled it off (e.g. by not dropping a potential game-sealing INT), they would have been the first team to accomplish this feat since 1948.
2. UT beat OU on a neutral field by double digits.
3. UT has the best scoring defense in the Big 12.
4. UT's SOS is comparable to OU's; in fact, they were ranked higher in terms of SOS until this week (maybe still higher, haven't checked today). Don't forget that while UT played against several bad teams, OU also played against Washington (perhaps the worst D1A CFB team this season) and a D1-AA team.
5. TTU shouldn't be included in the argument since they failed to legitimize their ranking (the SOS argument, plus the way in which they lost). Thus, the only teams left to compare are UT and OU. I know this is hard for some Oklahoma fans to understand (especially if they graduated from that glorified high school). See points 1-4.

Now, two teams that lost to Texas get the opportunity to play for the conference championship. The BCS and Big12 rules must be re-examined (obviously not by Obama, the man's got enough to take care of).

16. Yep, then UT wouldn't have been screwed by the system.
But I'd like to see how OU would have done if they had the same schedule.

17. Deluded fools?
Nice.
Try.
Let them reexamine the rules, but you can't change them in the middle of the game. Meanwhile, have fun wherever your little beeves play in a bowl game and try being civil next time.

And before you go on insulting MY university, I'd like for you to tell me who has the highest number of National Merit Scholars in a public institution...

give up?

It's OU.

18. bwahahaha! That's ridiculous
Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 09:04 PM by fishwax
That's not exactly an airtight case you present. "They only just barely lost" is hardly the kind of convincing evidence that can be overlooked only by deluded fools

And point #5 is, of the many arguments that has been bandied around in recent days, probably the stupidest. It makes no sense to say that Oklahoma would have a better argument if only they hadn't been quite so impressive against the #2 team in the country. The bottom line is that it was a three-way tie, no matter how much Texas fans want to pretend otherwise.
