I have a really bad memory. I thought I recall Georgia being pre-season #1.

1. Here's a trivia question
When's the last time a pre-season #1 won the national championship? Am I mistaken in thinking it hasn't happened very often?

2. 1977...Notre Dame...
...not sure if anyone has done it between then and now. Willing to bet USC was pre-season #1 a few years back when they won it all.

10. I thought the Semis.... FSU, went wire to wire in about '99.
The year they had that 30 year old Heisman winner QB.

3. You are correct
The preseason number one (Georgia, an SEC team) got its' butt kicked but good by two SEC teams; in the mean time they (Georgia) kicked the butts of last years national championship team, also a member of the SEC family. See how it works Joey? And when the Big Ten "champion" is resting by the fireplace, the two top teams in the SEC will have to play yet one more game to "prove themselves" worthy of a big time bowl.

4. I don't care what conference you're in...a pre-season #1 may fall,
but I can't recall a team falling harder than Georgia. And why are you so pro-Penn State this year when it's clear you still loathe the Big 10? I know Joe Paterno is old and gets the empathy vote, but they're still over-rated.

5. Of course you don't care about a conference
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 07:41 PM by BOSSHOG
your team is not in the SEC. I do not loathe the big ten. Its an organization of not bad football teams. I think they are kinda cute, like the puppies at the pound. No loathing, no hating. Penn State? The best team in the Big Ten overrated? Joey you are brutal! And yes I'd like to see JOPA in the big game and go out a national champion. Call it empathy; I just like the guy and wish him and his team well. Their season is over, right? Do Big Ten teams play past the first weekend in November?

6. Yup, they played Ohio State,
so essentially their season is over.

7. Conference championship games are just a money grab
Plain and simple.

8. Conference championship games are also...
the closest thing we have to a playoff system.

12. Fuck you, smartass.
We had season-ending injuries to two of our best OLs, a season-ending injury to our best DL, every single TE on the roster has been injured (and that position has been important in our offense), and we've had several injuries to our linebackers that have kept the ranks thin. This is the worst year for our program since 1995 in terms of serious injuries. Any team that got hit like that would suffer for it.

It didn't help the Florida game that our coaching staff and our QB got a serious case of the stupids on the same day. Make no mistake, though, we'll end the season with victories against Kentucky, Auburn, and Georgia Tech, and will do our usual season-ending beatdown of a Big 10 team in either the Citrus or Outback Bowl, and we'll be 11-2 and ranked Top 10. I remember preseason #1 Penn State going 9-3 with a weak schedule in 1997 and finishing 16th. We'll do better.

13. Even with the injuries considered, Georgia has turned out to be a DISASTER
Maybe they're going to lose out.

14. Greene was a better college QB that Stafford.....
Stafford has had 4 Three Int games. Also, has 14 int.'s vs UF, Aub and Ga Tech.

He throws the ball to the other team too much to win, big time.

I think the Butt Sniffers, will, as you said, win their last 3 games and finish ranked about #8 or 9. And if they win a bowl game, perhaps higher.
