I'm certain the batting slump isn't due to losing the protection of a first ballot hall of famer hitting behind you.

1. Yea, and I couldn't be happier that Manny was traded to my
hated rival.

On the bright side, it'll hopefully be good not to have to suffer through another championship series with Boston in it.

3. Now now.
Manny was a cancer and Jason Bay is the man.

I know because the Boston media which has no connection to the ownership told me so.

Also Pedro was an asshole prima donna and Mo Vaughn (remember him Boston? 1995 MVP?) was a degenerate drunk who frequented strip clubs.

This is what Boston does to its stars when they cats them aside. They must be villified lest the fan base wonder what the fuck is going on.

4. Here's Ortiz making that very observation
"Manny was a cleanup hitter, so you don't get that everywhere," said Ortiz. "We're going to play and we're going to see what's happening. Hopefully we'll able to get around it and we'll continue to make adjustments. That's what we have to do now. There were a lot of things going on and Manny wanted to go, so now everybody is playing the game hard the way it's supposed to be, and I'm not saying that because Manny is gone. I think we're just going ahead and playing the game."

Too early to tell whether Ramírez's absence has affected his at-bats?

"Oh yeah, you watch the games," said Ortiz, who walked four times in the first three games after the trade. "We just have to make some adjustments. I've been walking like crazy the last three games. I haven't had too many pitches to hit."

5. According to Gammons..
Ortiz was the leader in OPS last September, despite Manny's disappearance from the lineup. In September 2006, Ortiz was second to only A-Rod in OPS, even with Manny taking a powder and playing only six games.

The problems Ortiz has been having have more to do with his wrist than Manny. But don't let the facts get in the way of some good hating :)

6. Well he had more walks and had quite a few extra base hits.
Actually surprised Gammons didn't go with the BA since he hit very well last Sept.

With Manny out of the lineup, Ortiz is walked more often. Because he is fat and slow, its better for him to hit than simply be walked or pitched around.

Ortiz himself said he was not getting good pitches and walked more often.
