And they want to ship him to another team for Aaron Rodgers. What a piss poor decision that would be. How DARE they do this to Brett! I am just digusted....
Please Please any Packer fan out there please send snail mail to

So the Admin get their heads out of their collective ass and keep this National Treasure of a Man and QuarteRback .

My bottom line is that Rodgers is not proven, and Favre is the Packers best chance at a title.
Also, Ted Thompson pressured Favre to retire, not to just "make any decision". Favre is still under contract, and Thompson had no right to treat him this way. Rodgers contract has one year left, so the Packers office feels that they want to make sure and use him so they don't lose their investment in him. Well, it was a poor investment, because Favre was not ready to retire. The Packers signed Rodgers for too long, and they want Favre to go packing because of THEIR mistake. I don't feel this is right, or even legal, as Favre's contract should have been respected by the head office. I also feel that it is highly inappropriate the way Ted Thompson played Favre by pressuring him. This is because Thompson knew it would never fly with the media and especially the fans, if he out and out traded Favre. So Thompson played some serious dirty pool, and Favre is calling him on it. I'd expect no less from an honorable man like Favre. The head office and Ted Thompson are responsible for this mess, not Favre.

Thank You a head of time for your well thought out and civil replies.

1. Stop the Hagiography
Certain sports writers and Packers fans need to stop the hagiography of Brett Favre. Brett Favre was not forced to retire or "make a decision". Brett Favre is not the Packers best chance at winning a title. Finally, Brett Favre is not the honorable man you claim him to be.

First, Favre was not forced to "make a decision". After Favre retired at least two people from the Packers organization went to Mississippi and asked Brett Favre to reconsider his retirement. At that point Favre refused to reconsider. If Favre had any doubt, at that time, he could have said he wanted to return. I contend that at that point the Packers would have been willing to take Favre back. The problem the Packers' organization is having with Favre is that he waited until the team had moved on without him and then he decided to come back.

Second, Favre is not the best chance for the Packers to win a title. It was actually Favre that cost the Packers a trip to the Superbowl. As I said in another post, if any other quarterback had thrown a interception that cost his team a chance to go the the Superbowl people would be questioning whether that guy should be a quarterback. Just think about Peyton Manning. If Manning had had Favre's season and ended the season by throwing a interception people would be calling for Manning to be cut from the Colts. However, Favre who has only been to two Superbowls and only won one championship is called the best hope for the Packers to win a title. With the way some fans and sports writers are talking about Favre you would think he had won more than one superbowl. It seems you would also think Favre did not throw more interceptions than touchdowns.

Third, Favre is not the honorable man you claim him to be. If Favre had been so honorable he would not have held the Packers team hostage for so many years. The main reason the Packers went out and got Aaron Rodgers was because Favre kept riding the fence every year in terms of retiring. Each season Favre would put doubt in everyone's mind as to whether he would come back and them he would wait almost until the last minute to finally announce his decision. In addition, the Packers realized that at some point they had to move on without Favre; therefore, they drafted Aaron Rodgers.

In conclusion, the Packers should release Favre and let him find another team with which to play. I contend that if Favre goes to another he will play fairly poorly. The question I have is, what happens if he goes to another team and then the team does poorly will Favre do this again. Will he at the end of the season retire and then wait until the beginning of the next season and then attempt to come back and play for another season.

2. Brett Favre said he was pressured
What is your source for saying he was not pressured, and why do you think the Packers do not have to honor their contract with him?

3. The Meeting
As far as I know Brett Favre has not negated the idea that members of the Packers management went to Mississippi and asked Favre not to retire. If the Packers management was asking him not to retire and he said he did not want to come back and that he in fact wanted to retire how was he pressured to make a decision.

The Packers are trying to honor their contract with Favre. There is nothing in his contract that states that Favre has to be the starting quarterback. The Packers have told Favre that he can come back, but he has to come in as the backup. If he really wanted to play for the Packers he could just go to training camp and compete with Rodgers for the starting position. However, here is the question; If Rodgers does out play Favre would Favre be willing to be a backup quarterback?
