1. I'd like to see him run at the Travers and then the BC Classic.
However, I think his owners want to start the cash register ringing.

2. Big Brown is done...
they won't take a chance on him getting beat again. After his performance today he's gonna have a lot of wood to chop to pay back the folks that invested $50M in him.

3. It depends on the deal the ****ing owners made with Three Chimneys.
I think his foot problems need some time and he needs to grow out a better hoof.

But I am not going to be surprised if the owners whisk him off to stud so they
don't have to watch him get beat anymore.

It would really piss me off if they did that.

8. That's exactly what they'll do...which blows
I'd like to see Casino Drive against BB at a mile and a 1/4. That would be a good horserace.

10. it was with Three Chimmneys?
then he's done. no way TC and the Hedge Funders will risk the $40m payday. who cares if he can run longer distances? all the breeders care about is Churchill Downs and Pimlico.

4. They are saying on ESPN that Big Brown was steriod free for the Belmont
which was not the case for the Derby or Preakness. I don't know a whole lot about horses, but doesn't that make one question his two victories?

5. No.
The steroid he was given was called Winstrol and is not a potent mind bender or body building
type like, say, equipoise, which is a big dose of testosterone and really changes their behavior.

In the Derby and Preakness his foot was not hurting him. The quarter crack that popped out
caused him to miss important training coming up to the race and that made more difference
than anything else.

7. Thanks for the info. on Winstrol
I didn't know that about it. I imagine you're right about the fitness. Just goes to show that even the very best of horses need the preparations to go right to accomplish great tasks. Thoroughbreds are not machines, and that's what makes the sport so exciting and unpredictable. They're imperfect just as we are, and that's part of their greatness.

Affirmed, Seattle Slew, Secretariat, Citation, Assault, Count Fleet, Whirlaway, War Admiral, Omaha, Gallant Fox, Sir Barton. There's a reason why those names are immortal.

9. All the TC winners trained up to the race.
Nothing can go wrong when you are pointing for such a grueling series of races.

Most people here at the track were hoping too that BB could pull it off, but
it goes against horse sense that he would do so.

6. Not really...
he didn't look like he was lacking in flesh and he still looked pretty impressive before the race. I tend to think that it was the training time he lost from the quarter crack and the fact that he was not really bred to be a horse that could get a distance of ground.

11. Could inexperience
have been a factor? From what I've seen of BB, his 4 previous races were pretty easily run and won. But at the Belmont, he encountered some serious traffic. First, he was boxed in early in the race, then Tale of Ekati pushed him wide. The horse may have simply gotten frustrated with a situation he had never seen before. Rather than choosing to fight for a win, BB gave up.

It's interesting to note that 10 of the 11 Triple Crown winners had all lost at least 1 race prior to winning the crown (Seattle Slew the exception). It's one thing for a horse to know how to win. Equally important is for a horse to know what to do when they are losing--and knowing how lousy it feels to come in second so they try all the harder next time. That is what separates the merely good from the truely great.
