First, let me say ESPN is out of whack comparing him to Willis Reed. That's completely insane, but what can one expect from ESPN? Then ESPN has the gall to post a poll asking if Pierce overreacted to the injury. They should ask if ESPN overreacted to the injury.
However, if you read the stories at ESPN.com and then delve into the message boards, you'll see people with more conspiracy theories than experts on Area 51 and the grassy knoll combined. My favorite is that Pierce was "flopping" to try to draw a foul. Pierce collided with his own teammate. Was he trying to get a foul called on his own guy??
Pierce was injured. He did not try to put weight on his knee on the floor. They carried him off the court and wheeled him to the locker room. When he got to the locker room he went to get up to test his knee. The medical staff told him not to do it, but he got up and tried anyway. Michelle Tafoya was right there and reported it.
Let's flash back to January of this year and the AFC championship game between New England and San Diego. Early in the game, Tomlinson got hurt and was unable to play the rest of the game. During and after the Chargers' loss, people questioned Tomlinson for not trying to play through the pain. Some pretty horrible things were said about him. I don't like Tomlinson, but even I felt sorry for him. If the guy is hurt, the guy is hurt. Now Pierce comes back from an injury, plays through the pain and is able to help his team earn a victory. And he is criticized as a faker. If he hadn't been able to come back and play, these same people would have called him a quitter. There's simply no winning with some people.
