Cardinals relief pitcher Josh Hancock was legally drunk last Sunday when he plowed his car into the back of a tow truck parked on Highway 40, officials announced this morning. He also was talking on a cell phone at the time he crashed.

Hancock -- who died instantly of a severe head injury after the crash -- had a blood alcohol level of 0.157 percent, more than the legal driving limit of 0.08 percent, according to Dr. Michael Graham, the St. Louis medical examiner. Police Chief Joe Mokwa said 8.55 grams of marijuana were found in Hancock's car.

1. Sad but Not Surprising

It is sad that he was drunk, but I am not surprised at the news. When I first heard he had crashed into the back of a tow truck I wonder how he could have done that. I thought he had to have been distracted in some way. I do not want to be mean to him, but I also think it is sad that someone which so much would take such a risk with his life.

although apparently that wouldn't have mattered much.

this news needs to be spread widely, Hancock's death can still do some good if it gets through the head of one kid that driving drunk is stupid and wastefull (of yourself and, even worse, others) If a professional athlete in his prime can't handle the loss of coordination, NEITHER CAN YOU.
