... we're pretty much guaranteed to never see Michigan vs Ohio St for the national championship.

(Think about what has to happen to be in the championship game, and then think about the end of their schedules.)

That's too bad.

1. Almost impossible for two teams in the same conference to meet
Outside chance, if they didn't play each other in the regular season. But that obviously would never be true of Ohio St and Michigan.

In their case, the opportunity is diminished by the timing of the game, end of the regular season. It wouldn't be nearly as unlikely if, let's say the two teams already played, and the loser slowly moved up the polls to claim the #2 spot in the final BCS rankings.

3. it has happened, of course
but since the Big Ten doesn't have a championship game, it makes the whole Flordia/Florida State scenario from 1996 highly unlikely.

4. Don't look to the SEC for any sympathy
Not one team in the SEC is undefeated and yet it remains the best conference in the country. They spend all year beating each other up, then have a championship game while Notre Dame is consistently overrated and consistently gets ridiculously positive press coast to coast. I think the Big "Ten" should adopt Notre Dame so they have to actually play a tuff schedule year and year.
