last year. Like all football players, Young has made some mistakes, sometimes in a big game. But I watched him lead Texas back from a huge halftime deficit against Oklahoma State and I watched him confidently lead the Longhorns to wins against Ohio State and USC in tremendously hyped games. If he doesn't deserve the opportunity he has been given in the NFL, I don't know who does!
I thought Chris Simms was overrated -- that is, he was put into big-game situations at UT too soon and sometimes he screwed up. I don't blame him -- I blame his father and Mack Brown. But if he didn't have talent, I don't think he'd be playing for Tampa Bay, no matter who his father is. (I wish him a speedy recovery after his injury and surgery!)
I don't think anyone knows for sure how well a college star will do in the NFL. There are certainly some standout NFL players who no one ever heard of in college, outside of their own fans, maybe, and there are stars whose careers are less than stellar. Watching Vince play last year was nothing short of amazing. As a Cowboys fan and an old Oilers fan, I'm torn about today's game as I would love to see Vince do well but I want my Cowboys to win. But no matter how well Vince does today, I don't think the question will be answered as to whether he is overrated. Personally, I'll give him more time than one start.
