PHOTO of Maurice Clarett's passenger seat
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 07:16 AM by underpants
Well they weren't concealed weapons now were they?

This photo taken and released by the Columbus Police Department, shows the passenger seat side of Maurice Clarett's SUV after Clarett was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006 in Columbus, Ohio. Clarett was arrested early Wednesday after a highway chase that ended with police using Mace on the former Ohio State running back and finding four loaded guns in his sport utility vehicle, a police spokesman said. 1. Hmm. A lint roller.
When yo finna throw down on yo playa-hatas, it's important to be lint-free.

6. What he was doing was already illegal,

What he was doing was already illegal under current law (if I understand correctly, he has a criminal record and is therefore not allowed to even touch a gun or a single round of ammunition, and he was violating Ohio carry laws to boot). But if you're talking about laws against lawful ownership, I for one object to the idea of politicians rummaging through our family's gun safe and telling us which of our guns they'll confiscate and which ones they'll "allow" us to keep for now.

FWIW, that rifle is a non-automatic civilian (NFA Title 1) carbine in 7.62x39mm, and the oddly shaped stock suggests that it is of Chinese or Egyptian manufacture; I'd put the date between 1991 and 1996, and call it either a Norinco NHM-90/MAK-90 (generally high quality) or an Egyptian Maadi (generally regarded as crap). My wife and I both own similar rifles (not Chinese, though), as do several of my coworkers and a bunch of your fellow DU'ers.

Would you feel better if the rifle looked like this?

Ruger Mini Thirty, short-range deer rifle.

Same caliber, same ballistics, same range of magazine capacities, same rate of fire. But it does have a 19th-century-fogey style stock...

BTW, all rifles combined account for less than 2.2% of homicides in Ohio, per FBI stats.

I can't identify the handguns, but I think they're low-end 9mm's. One may be a Hi Point.

8. Word is that he has a habit.
A local sports talk show said that when he tried out for the Bronco's he was sneaking booze in and drinking during workouts. He would often say "I gotta go get my goose on." then disappear for awhile.

11. Oh, I agree it isn't the best
but it isn't a bottle of Albertson's store brand.

I much prefer the bottle of Chopin Polish vodka in my freezer right now. With a splash of cranberry juice. Mmmmmmm.

12. Lawyer: Clarett Has Ties to Alleged Israeli Mobster
<snip>

"Maurice Clarett was bankrolled by an alleged member of an Israeli crime organization after leaving Ohio State, ESPN has learned, and Clarett's attorney said Thursday that his client may have been in possession of firearms last week to protect himself against mob activity.

Clarett's attorney, Nick Mango, said Thursday that Clarett has repeatedly received death threats over the past year but that a cryptic postcard sent from Los Angeles last week has him wondering about Clarett's ties to an alleged mob enforcer.

In the late summer of 2004, ESPN has learned, Clarett traveled to Los Angeles and was introduced by a rapper friend to Hai Waknine, 35, a convicted felon who prosecutors believe is a member of an Israeli crime organization called The Jerusalem Group. Waknine, who at the time was being indicted on extortion and money-laundering charges, became Clarett's sponsor and adviser, along with Waknine's attorney, David Kenner. Waknine provided Clarett with cash, a BMW, bodyguards, drivers and beachfront lodging in Malibu, with the understanding that he would be reimbursed and receive 60 percent of Clarett's rookie contract.

But when Clarett was released by the Denver Broncos in August 2005, he was unable to pay Waknine back, and ESPN has learned that Waknine eventually cut off Clarett financially. Clarett moved back to his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio, that fall.

After Clarett was arrested last week, allegedly wearing a bulletproof vest and possessing four guns and a hatchet, Clarett's attorneys received an anonymous phone call alerting them to Clarett's ties to Waknine. They grew more suspicious when they received the threatening postcard this week.

Mango said he is concerned that postcard, sent to his law office, may have come from Waknine."
