Detroit Pistons are 35-5 and no one seems to care...
This magnificent start is being virtually ignored nationally because they have no flamboyant superstars.

1. Wouldn't you rather have them flying under the radar
than being the focal point of everyone - which makes them an even bigger target?

I love that my Hurricanes are being virtually ignored, even though they have the most points in the NHL.

2. Well, yes, I DO like keeping a fairly low profile
But it amazes me somewhat that this is just being completely ignored.

3. Ignored, but not
unnoticed. The pistons came through my town the other night and beat the living crap out of my Wolves. We may be having a "down" year, but that was embarrassing. Perhaps the boys wanted to rub it in our nose out of respect for coach Flip. I like that.

I hope they break the Bulls record for best record (62-10) IIRC....

4. Me TOO
This area would be more than happy to eradicate any record which involves Michael Jordan. Not a favorite here.

A correction: their record setting season record was of course 72-10 :dunce:

7. It's being ignored nationally because
Casual fans pay very little attention to the NBA regular season.

8. They're not the Lakers
or the Knicks or the Spurs, or the Heat. They are one helluva team and they are impressive. I do think as the season wears on, people will sit up and take notice should their great start be continued.

12. So is it safe to say you've got the blinkers on?
Congratulations! I did the same thing for the two Packers' Super Bowls in the late '90's.
It was really tough- both years the Wings were on their way to Champioships, too.

Go Steelers! Larry Foote's coming home!

10. because they're boring
same as the Spurs.

Those are two great teams that, unfortunately, are dull as hell. If I were an NBA Exec. I'd be doing everything I could be make sure we don't end up with another San Antonio - Detroit NBA Finals. That's the last thing the league needs is two teams that put people to sleep facing eachother in the finals.

A Dallas - Miami, San Antonio - Miami, Dallas - Detroit ect, finals would be fine.

But not with both the Spurs and Pistons. Please. Ugh.

13. Team play and defense is boring?
There is real artistry in those games, watching the harmony of play at work. I think it's great for kids to watch the unselfish team play too instead of the ball-hogging, hot-dogging, theatrics that feature people like Kobe, Shaq, Iverson, etc.

14. i somewhat agree
that its good for kids to watch that.

But, they're still boring.

For instance, my Nets play a very good team ball, they play defense, they are unselfish. But they also have superstars who make outstanding fun plays - alley ooops and behind the back passes and monster dunks.

There's nothing wrong with a rather bland, well-balanced team making it to the finals. The problem is when two teams do.

15. Ben Wallace can slam down some powerful dunks too
And Rip Hamilton and Chauncey have some amazing ball-handling skills including alley oops and behind the back passes.

But none of them make headlines off the court so nobody pays attention.

Instead they do things like adopt an entire public school, inner-city basketball team like Rip did. One of the Detroit high schools. He refinished the gym floor, bought new uniforms and shoes, helps pay for away game transportation, and regularly drops by practice. I wish we'd see more NBA players that do that.

Mitch Albom had a great column on the Pistons yesterday: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060126/SPORTS03/601260599

17. BORING? Ben Wallace is boring?
You would have to be double-dyed nuts to think such a thing.

You also have to admit that Dumars has got the best atmosphere in the NBA going on. Not just a bunch of bored looking celebrities sitting at courtside. He's got real Detroiters out there, having a good time. The atmosphere is electric! Nothing like it!

I'll tell you what's boring. One player scoring 81 points. Not only would it be a yawner to see the same guy throwing the same ball in the same basket over and over, it doesn't seem very exciting to me to marginalize the rest of your team, all the other team, and the game as a whole. I don't even know who the opponent was in that game! It's ridiculous.

Give me a Detroit party ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

...in his mind ... miss having him on the Blazers. Pistons have been freed even more by Flip -- it's a match made in heaven. By far the best team in the NBA.

Superstars aren't allowed, because the team is the star. I love this team. What a classy unselfish group of individuals. No wonder America's "news media" hasn't fallen in love with them.

26. Y'know, the Pistons/Lakers game might have been more fun to watch
if the announcers would actually have TALKED about it. It was like an imaginary game was going on as a backdrop to chit chat about LeBron James and Kobe.

31. Nope.
It's being ignored because the NBA killed itself with the Bulls and Lakers dynasties. The NBA has been ignored for a few years now.
