Opinion's of outsiders on Ron Artest
I'm from Indianapolis I just thought this would be a good place to ask for people opinion's about Ron Artest a current and most likely soon to be former member of the Indiana Pacers.

I'm not stating my opinion on him, I have mine, and I've heard everyone in Indiana's as well it seems in the last week. I just wanted to know what people thought about him in other parts of the country.

Just a quick recap, For those that don't know He's the player who started the now legendary brawl in Detroit last year and was suspended for the remainder of last season, extremely hurting the pacers chances at an NBA Title. And about a week ago stated he wanted out of Indiana by being traded, He went to the local media first before speaking to the team about his request. He has now been put on the inactive roster and Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh has went on record stating he won't reactive him even if they can't trade him away.

Opinions greatly appreciated
Thanks

1. Personally, I think he is very talented
But talent is not everything. He has shown a propensity to be a hothead and to not be a team player, and frankly he is being childish and immature.

2. Very, VERY talented player. One of the best in the game.
However, two of his teammates got suspensions and lost wages having HIS BACK in the brawl last year, and he rewards them by acting like this now. Now, I understand he's backed away from his comments about being traded, but still. His teammates went all out for him, and he turned on them. I'd be pissed if I were them.

3. He's a dick.
Yes, he's got a ton of talent, but he's a cancer in the locker room.
I do think Stern is a dick for fining Artest last week. Artest may be a dick, but he still has the right to express his opinion.

4. Brings it every night, but comes with lots of baggage
If it were up to me, I wouldn't pay him to be, nor make him, a starter. Unreliable off the court.

You might find this interesting: "Do You Want Ron Artest? Should You?"

"Seeing Ron Artest on the market gets me all crazy with thoughts.

Think about it. Someone's going to get him, and we're all going to roll our eyes and say "ha! those boneheads are going to crash and burn with the knuckelhead." Or, we might say "damnation, they were good before and now they'll be incredible."

It says something about Ron Artest that I don't even know which scenario is more likely..."

5. Wow, You All Have Very, Very Short Memories
We've seen this player in the NBA before. His name was Dennis Rodman. The key to handle a guy like Artest is to put him on a team that can win a championship and that will keep him in line. The perfect fit for him would be the Miami Heat. If Indy traded him to Miami, then they might as well give the Heat the NBA crown.

6. Well, I LIVE in Indy, but not FROM Indy, and don't watch B-ball ...
... so I guess that qualifies me as an outsider.

I think he's an obnoxious dick, and the team should just cut his ass rather than pay him x million dollars a week until they can arrange a trade with another team.

I'm sure there is at least one available player out there who has similar talent to Artest's (whatever level that may be), who would be glad to get a chance to play in the NBA and probably for a lot less that what they pay Punkass.

Surely if any one of us went to our employers and asked to be 'traded' to a new company and then decided we weren't going to 'work' while the 'trade' is pending, we'd be looking at the unemployment line in a matter of minutes.

7. He didn't "start" anything in Detroit
Chalk that up to little asshole fans who think they should be able to do whatever they want. Frankly, some of them should have their asses beat by the athletes every once in a while.

8. I agree with you...
...that dipshit fan started the fight, not Ron Artest. It's a crock of manure that the Pistons' organization wasn't punished (fined, made to play games in an empty arena) in some way for what happened that night.

Artest would look awfully good in a Cavaliers uniform right now.

10. i wonder...
would ron work with the cavs? I dunno if he'd like sharing the limelight with Lebron. But then, Lebron isn't really the self-worship type, so maybe it would work

12. Hey Doc. Remember That Artest. . .
. . .punched the wrong guy! The guy who threw the cup was the one Ron ran right by to whack the fan he did hit.

While i don't condone what the fans did, going into the stands and hitting the wrong guy is plain stupid.

15. I'm not excusing the fans' behavior, but......
Artest was very wrong for going into the stands. He had ice cubes tossed at him, for chrissakes. ICE CUBES! Ask outfielders from teams who have visited San Francisco what gets chucked at them from the stands. The answer is batteries. You never see them jumping the fences for payback.

11. Superb Player. Head Is A Little Crooked
While some will say he didn't start anything in Detroit, he still should have kept his hands to himself. His inability to do so is indicative of something out of plumb, but i'm no psychologist, so i don't know what.

He plays really hard every second he's out there, and that's sure a good thing, and he has superb skills. The thing i think is challenging is whether his teammates trust him to be there, mentally, every night. When his head is in the game, he's great. If not, well he's ordinary or worse. That would happen to anyone who's not in full concentration mode.

There has to be something beyond what we see to have Walsh deactivate him completely. More than meets the eye, or something.

He might be superb with a coach that can handle unusual personalities, rather than a "x's and o's" coach.

14. After the shit he pulled last year
You'd think the jerk would have grown up and not pulled anything at least this year but he can't. The guy is an oversized child. I wouldn't want him on my team for nothing. He might have talent but the baggage is more than the talent is worth.
