Steelers Fans Get Scared
Cowher has called a press conference for 10 am this morning. They have never called a press conference on short notice during the week for good news.

If Big Ben were just going to miss 1 game, they wouldn't mention it till Saturday, or Sunday morning. It could be possible that the MRI found something worse, and he's going to be out for multiple games. If not the season.

If he's gone for the season i'm gonna vomit.

1. Roethlisberger Needs Knee Surgery
Minor surgery. Will not play this weekend against Green Bay. Probably won't play the following weekend, and maybe not even the following. Most likely will be back in time for the Monday night game against Indy.

At least if he's going to be out it's during the easy part of the schedule. Packers, Browns, Ravens...if you have to lose your starting quarter back these are the weeks to do it.

We'll see how Batch does, but as long as everyone else rises to the challenge I think the Steelers can get three wins and have Ben back for the Monday night showdown against Indy.

24. Well, let me tell you
if my Pats don't beat the Colts this weekend, then you guys had better do the job--you're the only other team that can.

2. Bettis Out Too - But Duce is Back
And you should've heard the rumors fly. For awhile the rumor was Big Ben was out for the season. Be interesting to see how Batch does. I think he'll do better than Maddox.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had arthroscopic surgery this morning to "clean up" damaged cartilage in his right knee and will miss Sunday's game in Green Bay and possibly the Nov. 13 home game against the Cleveland Browns.

However, Roethlisberger should be ready to return when the Steelers play in Baltimore Nov. 20, if not sooner. Charlie Batch, who had been elevated to the No. 2 position, will be the starting quarterback Sunday.

In addition, running back Jerome Bettis will miss Sunday's game, also because of a knee injury.

Team orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Bradley performed a 15-minute procedure on a slight tear of the lateral meniscus in Roethlisberger's knee. Coach Bill Cowher said at a morning news conference on the South Side that the procedure "went very well."

3. Oh I was scared he was out for the season, definately.
It's just not like Cowher to call a press conference mid week. All i knew was that it had to be more than one week, and was worried that it was much much worse.

AS it is it's very minor surgery and it's coming at an ok time.

4. Hope Batch is better than Maddox.
I watched him play the entire second half of Pitt's game against the panthers here in charlotte. He runs a pretty good hurry up offense and was very very cool under pressure.

6. Batch is a below-average NFL starter with an injury problem
These types of players are also known as the 'ideal backup'. He should be fine, IMO.

10. i'm hoping he'll do well
He's a hometown boy, getting his first start for the team he grew up rooting for, playing against one of the worst teams in the league currently...

If that's not enough to motiviate him to have a stellar game, he needs to hang up the cleets.

12. More than before
I still think the Steelers will win, if only for their Defensive ability. The Packers need to jam the line though and keep that run from getting speed. If they can do that and Batch gets nervous, they have a shot.

17. Easy there, tiger.
I was fucking joking - obviously ravenseye got it.

Jesus fuck, you Steelers fans are way too sensitive. Two weeks ago I was just ribbing another Steelers fan after THEY BEAT US, and someone alerted it. :eyes:

Hey, remember. It's just a game. Take a deep breath if you need to, just don't take it too seriously, it's not good for your health. Oh, and please pass it on.

BTW, to answer your other post, I have no idea when I last saw Batch play. I'm not saying he WILL play like shit, but I hope he does. Yeah? So? And? What? Don't sit there and try to tell me that you don't root against the Ravens, Browns, and Bengals. Yeah, I want the Steelers to lose - big fucking deal. Oh, that's right, you probably wanted me to bow down to the Almighty Steelers. Us lowly Bengals fans just aren't worthy of respect. Not only that, apparently we're not worthy of trash talking either.

20. Touche.
Ya got me. :)

I don't know, it's just weird. Exactly two (and only two) times I've posted to Steelers fans, the first got alerted (by someone who it wasn't addressed to) and the second, I get called pathetic (by someone who it wasn't addressed to). And both times I was just messing around, a little harmless ribbing. Maybe it's just me, but I thought this smilie-> :D would signify that I was joking.

Ah well, strikes and gutters. :)

I don't see anything in her post that indicates that she either called you a name or alerted on you. It just sounds like, in your words, a "little harmless ribbing" too. Just sayin'...you too went off on a diatribe to nothing in particular, so...

23. Alright, already!
I said ya got me! I certainly recognized the irony of my post. :D

She did, however, clearly apply the adjective 'pathetic' to my post. Probably jokingly, but that's what smilies are for, and none were used. Text doesn't carry tone or inflection, knowhatimean?

But hey, I am scared of Cowher. That face. :scared: Marvin doesn't have that angry approach. When someone fucks up, he has the look a disappointed father does when his son gets thrown in jail for possession of cocaine. :D

25. you need to read some of will pitt's advice about posting in the sports
forum, if you can't take the ribbing(which from my end is always meant in good fun) then this is not the place for you. As far as respect goes the bengals have about as cushy a schedule as the steelers, i think they actually mirror each other. we'll talk in the playoffs. one of our teams will be there.

27. Don't worry...
...about me, I'm totally fine with it. Trust me, if any sports fan has had to grow thick skin, it's a Bengals fan. I got used to denigration and superciliousness a long, long time ago. This is the first time in...basically, my life...when I can actually say something back.

Like I told friesianrider, I just couldn't tell whether you were joking around or not. When it's just text on the screen, I can't rely on context from smilies, inflection, tone of voice, facial expression, etc. My fault - I just misunderstood.

And actually, the Steelers have a tougher schedule by default, being the division winner last year. You had to play NE and SD, we have BUF and KC. And hey, don't dismiss the possibility of both us going. There are two wild card spots to be had. :)

Again, sorry for misunderstanding. :hi:

:-)

My wife, the Steeler fan (me the Raider fan) was outraged when she found out that they trashed Maddox's house after that gut wrenching loss a few weeks ago. I told her it's all part of being part of team and taking your lumps

34. The Garbage Trashing Story Was BS!
Tommy's agent started it for some reason and a KDKA TV ran with it. WPXI TV went to Tommy's wife and she said it never happened! I was screaming at the TV tonight when the ESPN guys ran with the BS story. The story died quickly after Mrs. Maddox comments. Tommy got angry with reporters and refused to comment when reporters brought up the discrepancy. I lost a lot of respect for the way Tommy acted after that game and for letting this story go on. But, if he starts next Sunday, I wish him luck. I was really sorry though to see Batch get hurt tonight, especially after he had a good first half. Seems like Batch is under a cloud of bad luck.

Beleaguered Steelers quarterback Tommy Maddox preferred "no comment" to another turnover Friday.

Maddox repeatedly declined invitations to shed light on contradictory statements offered by his agent and his wife in the wake of what happened at Maddox' home following Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Maddox lost a fumble and tossed three interceptions -- including the game winner in overtime.

On Thursday, Jennifer Maddox disputed a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review report that vandals had thrown objects on the family's lawn in Adams, Butler County. She also told WPXI-TV that her children were not harassed at school or on the school bus.

On Wednesday, the quarterback confirmed agent Vann McElroy's accounts of vandalism at the Maddox home and the children's harassment.
