I think the Yankees getting Randy Johnson this year was a bad idea. I think he helped them out in a few games, but I think they could have found a better pitcher or some other player.
Of course they don't grow on trees but the Yanks would have been much better off signing a good center fielder like Beltran and shoring up their defense and middle relief.
I am also beginning to wonder about pitching coach Mel Stottlemeyer. Yesterday I heard El Duque said that he told Contreras to just forget about what Mel was telling him to do when he (Contreras) was with the Yanks and start pitching the way he did when he played in Cuba and Contreras was reborn with the Chisox.
Maybe the Yanks had the pitching they needed all along and didn't know it.
