Rose Bowl Thread!
Edited on Sat Jan-01-05 01:43 PM by ih8thegop
Based on our exit polls and the fact that blue beats red every time we are now ready to project a winner.

Projected winner:

THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

Now only Diebold can take it away.

6. UT proves it deserved a BCS Bowl. The Rose Bowl, no less.
What a great game.Michigan played their heart out and UT didn't choke in a big game.
No lustre off the oldest and grandest Bowl of all in having UT there for the first time ever.

The eyes of Texas are upon you all the live long day
The eyes of Texas are upon you, you cannot get away
Do not think you can escape them at night or early in the morn
The eyes of Texas are upon you 'till Gabriel blows his horn

11. It's just a game,buddy,and thank you,Ohio, for Diebold.
No offense meant to the many good Ohioans on DU but this nasty tirade about Texas over a lost football game is just ridiculous.

12. I am a Rose Bowl purist
I always like the Big 10 PAC 10 matchups. That being said, I was glad that Texas won the Rose Bowl (I cannot stand Lloyd Carr - since he chewed up a sideline reporter at halftime of a game last year - who was just doing his JOB, asking why Carr decided to take a knee at halftime)

Go Badgers!

13. Being a purist aside, this game will have to go down as one of the
greats of the series. This wasn't the first non Pac Ten/Big Ten meeting since the BCS format was installed. But it was the first meeting ever of the #1 and #4 top winning college programs of all time, and on New Years Day at Pasadena, no less.

Tradition or not, this was as good a game as could have been hoped for.And how about Vince Young? Wasn't he alone worth the price of admission?

The Rose Bowl is still the first and best of them all and you just may see UT there again playing for the national title.

14. frankly, I think both these teams
are top five next year. (I'm a Blue-guy all the way, full disclosure) Vince Young is insanely good, mad props there. Both teams are young, Texas loses their running back, who didn't feature at all, and Michigan loses Edwards, who is irreplacable, but the young players on both sides will be better.

somehow, I don't think they'll go another 2500 games without playing again in January.

16. Oh for cripe's sake - Carr apologized many times
and it was a freaking STUPID question. If you are going to be a sideline reporter, then at least know the game of football.

15. Great game
The Rose Bowl and Louisville-Boise were 2 of the best I've seen so far. I was one of those who thought Cal should have been in ahead of Texas, but was proven completely wrong (automatic bids do need to be addressed though - Pitt was the worst BCS team I've ever seen). I'm glad to see Texas finally prove themselves in the BCS after years of losing to OU and getting sent to a lesser bowl. Young was extremely impressive, and really put them on his back at the end. Both teams should be in great shape next year. UT still has to get over OU, which will be tough, but should still be a top 5 team. UM will have a more experienced Henne and Hart, and also gets their big 2 rivals at home.

17. Great game with a sickening result
though I will say that the Texas team certainly seemed to be good sports, no dancing around in the end zone or any of that crap. The worst thing was that Bush, whose justice department sued the University of Michigan, was probably pleased with the result.

22. Unfortunately, this is now the guaranteed NC game
I was hoping for Auburn to blow out VT, and the Orange Bowl to be close, but Auburn shot themselves in the foot with poor red zone play. At least tonight's game should be good, as both teams are deserving and match up pretty well.

23. Finally got back from the Rose Bowl late last night.
We had to divert to Tulia, Texas for a funeral. But the game was absolutely fantastic! It's hard to imagine ever attending a better game! We had major travel problems afterwards (apparently, it was news to America West that a bunch of Texans might be traveling to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl!) but it was STILL worth it. Even though weather caused our flight from Burbank to Phoenix to Denver to Amarillo to be diverted to LIBERAL, KANSAS where we had to spend the night so that it took us 27 hours to get from Burbank to Amarillo, it was STILL worth it!

We saw no ugliness on the part of Michigan or Texas fans (except for a couple of rude Texas T-shirts.) I know how disappointed the Michigan fans were -- we've been in their shoes plenty of times -- but it was certainly amazing to finally be on the side of the team that came out ahead in such an important game!

Hook 'em, Horns!
