David Carr
What are the feelings about David Carr at DU. When he was drafted first four years ago I asked a guy if Carr had deserved to be drafted number that year. The guy said yes. I had doubted Carr because I had not heard of him and that year the Miami quarterback was being talked about a large amount and was doing a very good job. So do people at DU think Carr should have been drafted first four years ago? Also, do people think the Texans should let Carr go when his contract ends.

After the Texans started the years 2-0 I thought some changed needed to be made. The Texans have not made the playoffs since they have been in the league. At first I thought Capers should be fired, but then I remembered that he helped the Panthers make it to the playoffs in their first or second year, when he was their coach. However, I think they need to make some changes on the team other than the offensive guy they fired a few days ago.

1. lots of talent, no production
I think he could be a Rich Gannon type guy who needs to kick arround the league a few years untill he finds his spot where he can play to his potential.

I can think of a lot of 2nd or 3rd year quaterbacks I'd rather have them him at this point...Palmer, Eli Manning, Rothlesburger....

5. and what do all three of those have in common?
oh yeah. a decent ground game and defense, Carr hasn't had that. Rothlesberger threw 11 times on opening day. it's easier when you aren't the guy.

6. That's why they shouldn't have drafted him
He has talent, but what Houston should have done was trade their pick and let Carr go somewhere else. A Franchise quarterback is great to have, but not if he has nothing around him.

If I had been in charge of the Texans I would have traded the pick, and concentrated on the Offensive Line and Defense first. If you can get a solid O-Line going, you can bring in a quarterback and he can make things happen.

I don't care who you are, if you're rushed every time you touch the ball, and are either sacked, or forced, or rushed, or intercepted....I don't care who you are. Without a good O-Line, Carr was a waste of a pick.

2. I thought Harrington was the better pick when they were drafted.
Now it seems evident they both suck. Harrington, though, I think could do OK in a system better suited to his talents. I'm not so sure about Carr. He doesn't seem to have progressed at all.

3. IMHO, jury's still out....he's never had any time to throw

His offensive line sucks big time, and it's been that way the whole time.

Unless you have the running skills of Michael Vick, any young quarterback thrown into that situation won't look good.

4. He's a tough guy
That Houston offensive line has put him through "Gridiron Hell."

I like his make up. I still think he could arrive.
