Before St. Tebow's last drive his stats were---
Edited on Fri Nov-18-11 06:24 AM by trumad
11 yards rushing

6-15

69 yards passing

OK--first --no doubt scoreboard.

But second and most important--- his play is unsustainable in the NFL.

As with any new wrinkle in the NFL, it will eventually be coached against effectively.

The Wild Cat was very successful at the beginning---but no more.

Tebow running will soon be neutralized and what will be left is a passer with the above type of statistics.

Does the guy have a spark and a winning style-- you bet.

Would I choose him for a fantasy team-- no way.

1. You are probably right
Down here in the south we have been watching him for years. He reminds me of a big version of Joe Kapp with the arm of Billy Kilmer. One thing about him is he is the same size as the linebackers and the word was he is like trying to tackle a refrigerator. You really don't have to have a cannon of an arm to be successful you just need to be accurate. His windup reminds me of throwing a baseball and if he can be accurate for 30 yards he can make it.

3. Here's the thing...
The wild cat in Miami was successful because Ronnie Brown---a big ass running back-- ran the ball-- with Ricky Williams included.

These were running backs.

Is Tebow more of a runner than passer--- sure looks like it to me.

The Wild Cat worked for a season but pretty much vanished the following season.

Why?

Because teams coached to it and stopped it. No more Wild Cat.

This will happen to the Broncs.

Keep in mind---the Jets pretty much did that the whole game.

On top of that---the Broncs have run into a lucky streak with the teams they've played.

Miami--2 wins--

Oakland-- A Sybil of a team for sure.

KC--- a horrible team who has completely fallen apart.

Jets--- Offense is anemic---IE: just plain horrible.

I'm looking at Tebow from a football point of view.

Folks hop on and call anyone critical of the guy a Tebow Hater.

It should be the other way around--- It's the Tebow worshipers that have their eyes covered.

Again---his style of football is unsustainable and will eventually crash and burn.

who has far better stats than Tebow--- has a 2 game win streak.

Does this make me errr overjoyed? Nope.

Why

Because he's not the answer to the Phins QB problem.

And either is Tebow for the Broncos...

Now go and hand your Tebow poster over your bed like your Mom told you to.

7. You and others can rag on Tebow all you want..
and it's true his performance last night before the final drive was abysmal..some of it due to the Broncos play calling. One thing that is beyond dispute though is up until this point, both in college and now the pros, Tebow has been a winner..

9. Not arguing with you there
but this style of offense is not be sustainable.

You cannot play 5 minutes of good football in the NFL.

And the defense deserves credit for keeping the score down.

19. I just checked the stats
Denver's defense is the second worst in football only behind Indy. That's scary, but I guess they got blown out early in the season? They've been pretty good over the last few games and defense is huge in football.

and Sanchez stinks...I wonder how they'll do against New England, Pittsburgh or any other decent team...we saw what happened against the Lions.

11. Defense really won that game for the Broncos
Once again, I'm happy to get the win. And Tebow was great on the last drive, even completing one of those mid-length passes that seems to be his bete-noir.

But the offense scored 10 points at home. The team's other scoring drive was all of 15 yards. Outside of the opening drive and the closing drive, Denver had three first downs: one on the aforementioned scoring drive and the other two on the opening drive of the 3rd quarter. Twelve possessions last night, with 7 three-and-outs. Another drive ended on a fumble on the second play. So the Broncos managed a first down on 1 out of every 3 drives. Not good.

And, yes, the Jets defense is great against the pass, so no big surprise that Tebow struggled through the air for most of the game, but they're middling against the run, and they also shut Denver down on the ground for most of the game. Denver wound up with 125 rushing yards, about 9 more than the Jets give up on average.

Plenty of concern about that kind of game as a long-term strategy.

That said, though, the Broncos are winning now and, against all odds, are in playoff contention.

13. He's the Vick of 2011
Remember how last year all we heard about Vick was despite past stats he was unstoppable and was going to carry his team all the way? Well its obvious that coaches now have figured out how to scheme against Vick. Tebow may well succeed this year. But next year? I'd be surprised if he does.

15. I believe Tebow can succeed
He's only a 2nd year player with incredible skill and leadership. His skill isn't perfect for a QB, but I think it's enough a quality football player. Teams will get better against him too, but I think Tebow is a hard worker and will adjust.

20. Disagree
you need accuracy and pocket presence in the NFL---

You either have it right off or you never have it.

Tebow has happy feet in the pocket--a very bad delivery---and horrible accuracy.

Teams will simply dare him to throw by crowding the line---heck---we've seen it from the Phins and the Jets.

I think next week will be a good test for the Broncos and Tebow---they face the 9th ranked offense and 9th ranked defense with the Chargers.

16. Would Tebow be better with better receivers?
The only issue is that I don't know what kind of quality receiver would want to play in denver when they throw so little. But the same was said about Plaxico and the Giants and that worked out well.

21. They are throwing so little because he's inaccurate
and they're probably worried about his throwing motion--- stripped of the ball.

23. it will work the rest of the season
just good enough to get them a few more wins.

Then teams will prepare for it and figure it out, and they will have no plan B. It's a short term fix for a long term problem. They'd have been better served either sticking with Orton or looking for a new QB, while beefing up their oline so that they can pass protect better for whatever real QB is back there.

Then get a speedy back to complement McGahee, find a decent TE, and together with an average passing QB (like say Orton) they'd have the foundation for a decent team.

26. Maybe in the big picture this is a statement on the NFL as a whole
The game has been watered down through free agency, salary caps, etc. We have been experiencing for the past decade or so parity in a league that never really had it before. This may be just another example of that.

27. Demver lost badly to the two teams they played.
They haven't played a lot of good teams. So some of this has to do with competition. But don't underestimate Tebow's skill. Those are all NFL players out htere.
