Hank Williams Jr. and his iconic theme song will not return to ESPN's "Monday Night Football," the network announced Thursday.

"We have decided to part ways with Hank Williams, Jr," ESPN said in a statement. "We appreciate his contributions over the past years. The success of Monday Night Football has always been about the games and that will continue."

SNIP

On his own website, Williams said he was the one who made the decision.

"After reading hundreds of e-mails, I have made MY decision," he wrote. "By pulling my opening Oct 3rd, You (ESPN) stepped on the Toes of The First Amendment Freedom of Speech, so therefore Me, My Song, and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT OF HERE. It's been a great run."

LOL -- so long, douchebag. BTW, you were never welcomed. Not by me. I've despised that redneck opening since it started in 1991.

1. Freedom of Speech doesn't give you freedom from consequences of your speech.
Does he seriously think he has anything to do with the success of MNF? Is he that stupid???

7. Nor does the whole first amendment complaint of his fly here either since ESPN isnt the government
but then again I can forgive ole hank, after all I kinda doubt he even read the amendment or he would know that the amendment only protects use from the government stifling speech.

3. Always loved the "I can say anthing I want because of Freedom of Speech---
and expect no consequences for it sentiment.

It's like telling your boss to fuck off---and as you're being walked to the door with pink slip in hand yelling---hey--freedom of speech!!!

4. They should replace him with Willie Nelson...
And he should sing: "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys"

5. The opening I'd like to see (and the only one worth considering):
A salute to the athletes: clips of great players and great plays through NFL history. That stuff never gets old.

I would really like to put some talcum powder on my hand and bitch slap him down.
The worst concert I ever worked, was the first time the big shot fullofshitphus came to Rupp. It was absolutely the worst crowd ever at a concert. All the beer in town got rented that night.
Not a pimple on his Dad's ass.
