1. If I believed in conspiracies
I'd say that the Yankees blew that lead just to build up the Sox hopes, and then dash them by laying down.

Heh. I hate the Red Sox.

3. Upside
I remember watching the coverage after the Sox came back to beat the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS. The television was filled with 18-year-olds running wild in the streets screaming things like "I've been waiting for this for my whole freakin' life!"

I remember thinking, quite clearly, "Go walk into traffic, you little clown. You were a fucking zygote in 1986."

Uncharitable, perhaps, but there it is. And since 2004, those blessed little youngsters have enjoyed a string of unprecedented Boston success.

Well, after today, they are legitimately part of the tribe. They know the pre-2004 pain that makes rooting for the Sox what it is.

Welcome to the club, youngsters.

Oh, and as for the gloating you display?

Patriots Patriots Red Sox Patriots Red Sox Celtics Bruins.

Seven championship parades through my city in ten years.

So yeah, I think we'll recover from this.

;)

12. Yep, been here before. Many times.
Sox didn't deserve to win but it really hurts the fans who have been supporting them for YEARS!

8. The Sox have always been my second favorite team
and I was incredibly happy to see them break the Curse in '04 and reify its demise in '07. I lived in Boston during the '86 World Series and was crushed by Game 6.

This is proof, though, that weird things can and will still happen to the Red Sox.
