Texas pitcher throws camera to ground, sends one camera man to hospital
Associated Press
Posted: 24 minutes ago

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Texas Rangers pitcher Kenny Rogers shoved two cameramen Wednesday, sending one to the hospital in a videotaped tirade that included throwing a camera to the ground and threatening to break more.

<snip>

Rogers missed his turn Tuesday night against the Angels because of a small broken bone in his right pinkie. Rogers was hurt after he came out of a game against Washington on June 17. Video clips showed him knocking multiple coolers to the ground, then looking at his right hand.

Rogers has refused to talk to reporters all season, and on Tuesday night ordered television cameras turned off around him. He has boycotted most media since a report before spring training that he threatened to retire if he wasn't given a contract extension.

Hicks said he's aware that Rogers has a temper.

"Kenny has had a short fuse dealing with the media," said Hicks. "I've heard stories about what may or may not have happened. He has issues. It's directed at the media and I don't know why."

10. They all know that Dallas fans will overlook their violent side
..take a look at some of the DMN readers' comments...it's where the paper asked "what should happen to Kenny Rogers?" (the listed comments at the site range from what you see below to suspend him for 10 games/pay for the damage to trade his ass ASAP/local police better file criminal charges.)

1> Kenny has seen what the lying liberal news has done from sports, to President Bush, to the actual lies about himself. Imagine reporting the news and not spin imagine what the lies have done to him. He asked to be left alone. As for punishment can you give him a trophy and a clean shot?

2> The Rangers and the fans should help him. He has done some great things for Texas baseball and his actions have been misconstrued. I am sure because this point of view believes the media "shockingly" acted this season inappropriately, my statement wont be reported. He got tired of the abuse and questions and lies surrounding every action he has taken. Now I feel you are sticking together in the boys club and crucifying him when he has always been a great player and a great person. The Rangers and the fans should support him in getting better, next time you are stressed out and having a hard time, I hope a camera is in your face asking you every five minutes about it.

3> A fine but nothing else. The media knew that Kenny was very emotional right now and kept sticking cameras in his face until Kenny snapped. I think that sometimes the media forgets that athletes are human.

4> Kenny should be fined and given the ball to take the mound. Many times we see the media provoking the player, Kenny had warned many to turn the video off. Just like average joe's like you and me, he should be given his space as well. Keep your head up Kenny!

12. good question...
Wasn't it a Rangers player who threw a chair into the stands last year and broke a woman's nose with it?

I guess we're just lucky they aren't packing heat when they visit our cities.

4. This shit is on 24/7 here in Dallas
Three different stations were filming at the time, so it's all that's on the news here, on all the stations. So you get the angle of the guy who got knocked down, then the camera from the other side, etc. Over and over.

They even had a live reporter outside the hospital the cameraman went to, even though he was released HOURS before.

I hope no white chick goes missing or gets attacked by sharks, because we just won't hear about it.

6. Video of him post hissy-fit
Cussing people left and right, having to be pulled away from the remaining cameramen in the area by his team mate...DMN article and video from local TV station:

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/063005dnsporangside.596efc2f.html

Rogers also threw one camera to the ground and threatened to break others while walking to the field for pregame stretching.

The 40-year-old left-hander shoved the first cameraman, who was shooting video of Rogers, telling him: "I told you to get those cameras out of my face."

Rogers then approached a second cameraman. He wrestled the camera from Larry Rodriguez of KDFW-TV, threw it to the ground and kicked it.

Rogers saw two other cameramen who were recording from the Rangers dugout and walked toward them. He did not make contact with the men, who were backing away.

7. Why is he not in jail?
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 11:21 PM by MindPilot
If anyone else behaved like that they would be tazed, cuffed and held on a half million dollar bond.

I'm sick of seeing these overpaid single-digit IQ jerkoffs getting a pass.

:grr: :grr: :grr: :grr:

On edit: When you are in pro sports, dealing with the media is part of your job, you stupid motherfucker. This is why I hate sports.

15. the article says "No charges had been filed"
there was a "report" filed, and an "investigation". But he was no arrested. If he wasn't a pro athlete, he'd be in jail. That's a pass.

Doesn't mean something won't happen in the future.

And when you were referring to "single-digit IQ jerk-offs" were you referring to athletes or the media who cover them?

18. The athletes.
It takes active brain cells to operate a television camera. Hit a ball with a stick? You gotta be seriously challenged to find that entertaining.

21. I thnk Nolan Ryan is the most overrated
pitcher of all-time, but he did NOT sucker punch Robin Ventura. Robin charged the mound and got what he deserved from a man twice his age.
