Madres pitcher signs "I hate SF" baseballs
Bitter much?

http://www.comcast.net/articles/sports-mlb/20110217/Padres-Latos_.Autograph/

San Diego Padres pitcher Mat Latos took a little jab at San Francisco, all in the name of charity.

A San Diego-area memorabilia store advertised three baseballs with Latos' signature and the words "I hate SF" below. The balls sold for $1,100, with half going to the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.

Latos and the Padres were eliminated from playoff contention by the San Francisco Giants on the final day of the season last year. The Giants took the NL West title over San Diego and went on to win the World Series.

You stay classy, San Diego! :P

1. Yeah..here's one here..
Latos is a real jerk. Remember when he busted up Dave Flemmings car last year? And then it was sour grapes time from Latos when the Giants caught the Padres:

"Baseball works in funny ways. The only way I could honestly put it is, we could be like the Giants and go and change our whole lineup, put guys with 'San Francisco Giants' across their jerseys. We didn't. We added two guys (Miguel Tejada and Ryan Ludwick) We've been the same team all year. We haven't just gone and grabbed guys from other teams."

4. There's some truth to your reply...
what's the big deal? All that matters is who won the trophy.

By the way, Latos never aimed at Flemming's car. He threw a baseball out of the stadium that landed in the players parking lot where Flemming happened to be parked. It broke the windshield.

And Latos should remember that in the N.L. pitchers have to bat. Lincecum and company may just file this stunt under "Douchebags aching for chin music."

7. LOL
A SF friend always tells me that the Dodgers-Giants rivalry (I know this is SD not LA but still) is as intense and nasty as NY-Bos. And no one around here would blink an eye at someone like David Ortiz signing a ball that said "I hate NY"....

9. Giants fans are gonna get one of those drag a banner airplaine dudes....
Edited on Fri Feb-18-11 12:37 PM by Iggo
....to fly over Dodger Stadium dragging a Giants World Champs banner.

And when they do, I'll say "Nicely played, a-holes. Nicely played."

Signing a couple of baseballs for charity? No biggie.

THINK BLUE
GO DODGERS
BEAT THE HATED GIANTS

16. Well, the whole decent, God-fearing world hates the Skankees
so that's understandable.

19. We don't say "I hate L.A." We say (rather, scream) "Beat L.A.!"

Big difference.

And, being bicoastal, I can tell you that Dodgers-Giants is an order of magnitude away from approaching the intensity of Yankees-Sox. No one, for instance, would think to throw rocks at the Dodgers' team bus.

10. It sounds like the west coast teams may be developing real rivalries.
Good for them. I don't see a problem with what Latos did at all.

11. I think the Rockies/Giants rivalry is bigger than the Padres/Giants...
anyone want to weigh-in on that?

Giants/Dodgers is biggest

17. I don't think Padres/Rockies fans are intense enough to worry about which is bigger.

13. Yes, the SF-LA Rival is as intense as the Sox-Yankees,
:sarcasm:

They can keep telling themselves that, but it doesn't make it true.

14. The longest running rivalry in MLB
is Giants/Dodgers..which began back in the 1880's.

It's every bit as intense if not more than Red Sox/Yankees. If you weren't brainwashed by the East Coast media, you'd realize that..

Edited on Fri Feb-18-11 03:53 PM by hughee99
but as intense as Sox-Yankees? You keep telling yourself that. LA has far too many apathetic fans for an "intense" rivalry.

I've been to Dodgers-Giants games in both cities, and I've been to Sox-Yankees games in NYC. There is no comparison. The atmosphere at the Sox-Yankees games is much more intense. Heck, for fan rivalry, I'll take a Cubs-Cardinals game any day over Dodgers-Giants.
