Jerry Jones floats idea of 22-game season

The league will have no trouble playing 18 or even more regular-season games if it can persuade the players to accept an expanded schedule, Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, said Tuesday. "It's something we certainly have had the ability to do," Jones said at a news conference in Arlington, Tex., the site of Super Bowl XLV. "We've had the ability to go to 22 games, had we wanted to as owners without anybody's approval. We haven't done that without the approval of players. Certainly, we want players to buy into what we do on a going-forward basis."

4. The timing couldn't be worse

First, they're already in big trouble on the labor front just because of the money (here, play more games for no increase in pay). Then there's the growing awareness of just how much worse the head injury situation is than anyone ever dreamed...

Maybe if the owners showed they were serious about players' welfare and in basic fairness (who agrees to do more work for no compensation? Not the guys asking players to do so!) we could start talking 22 games in a season. In the meantime, it just further cements my opinion of the man...

You have all domed stadiums, and double the number of players, then maybe, just maybe, you could play 22 games.

Let's face it, football is not meant to be played after early December. Why do you think they played Bowl games in warm weather. Jeebus, even Pro football was finished by mid December.
