Browns to hire Jauron as DC
http://dawgpounddaily.com/2011/01/21/cleveland-browns-to-hire-dick-jauron-as-defensive-coordinator/

The team is set to hire Philadelphia Eagles defensive backs coach Dick Jauron, making him the first coordinator to join head coach Pat Shurmur’s staff.

Jauron is a two-time head coach in the NFL (three if you count his tenure as the Detroit Lions‘ interim head coach in 2005), so he brings plenty of experience to the staff. After all, the 60-year-old has been a coach in the league since 1985.

Even better, a source (the always-loved “source”) says that Jauron is choosing Cleveland because of his familiarity with president Mike Holmgren and GM Tom Heckert. That’s what finally having a solid front office will do for you.

There has also been talk of the Browns switching back to the 4-3 defense, something that many people have been wishing for for a number of years. What do you think, should the Browns go back to the 4-3?

The Cleveland Jets are morphing into the SeaEagles after Mangini's departure.

1. Good thing they didn't hire Billy Davis

I've read that he was interviewed by the Browns for the job. He was the Cardinals' D-Coordinator the last 2 years where they underachieved and gave up big plays all the time.

2. I just heard Tony Grossi of the Plain Dealer talking about that...
his thought is, might as well. Other teams of the AFC North play the 3-4, so the 4-3 will at least be a different look. And as Grossi said, they haven't won with the 3-4. That said, do they have personnel or can they get it and coach it effectively?

I'm not as up on the Browns as the 49ers, but it looks to me they're facing a major rebuilding/coaching program (count the West Coast offense among that).

5. 3-4, 4-3, doesn't matter
Browns have run the 3-4 since Romeo Crennel came on board in 2005, but never got the personnel to run it effectively. I'm not worried about changing to a 4-3 because I think it would be easier to find the bodies to run it. I thought Rob Ryan was a creative coach who did wonders with a dearth of natural talent (old and slow). His creative "Amoeba" defense was directly responsible for defeating NE and NO last year. I'll miss him.

Shaun Rogers is a beast DL but has trouble getting motivated. Jauron made him a star back in Detroit and might be able to do it again. Tuba Rubin has been a great nose tackle and should do great as a DT. 1st Round #6 pick of sure thing DE would put the Brown's DLine in good shape next year (if LBs Fujita, Gocong, and Roth can stay healthy for a whole season).

Last year's draft focused on D. With Shurmur as HC I bet he's going to push for offensive weaponry for Colt. Browns need #1 WR and RT, at the very least, in addition to DL, LB, CB. Sheesh!

4. I think he did fine with the Bills, and I'm glad he's in the game.
He's a football guy and belongs in the NFL in one capacity or another.
