3. I think it's just posturing, but I really hope The Spankmes lose him...he's past
his prime but the psychological loss will devastate them. That said, he ain't going anywhere...no one else is gonna pay him more than $10 per season, short-term, and the Spankmes will eventually coungh up about $18M, IMHO.

5. That's just insanity.
Look, I realize Jeter is a Yankee lifer, legendary figure type but really....$25 million? Take the 15 and be happy dude. Retire with the pinstripes with your dignity intact.

6. What Slayer Said!
The best PR move would be to take the 15, know that this cements his NY endorsement deals for another 4 years, and he still makes more money than he'll ever need. Then, he is the guy who took the fair, but not max, deal to stay a Yankee for life.

Would be a much more dignified move.

7. In fairness
Derek Jeter's agent: $150M wrong

Derek Jeter's agent Friday denied a New York newspaper report that his client is seeking a six-year deal for about $25 million annually to return to the Yankees.

"The recently rumored terms of our contract proposal are simply inaccurate,'' agent Casey Close said in an e-mail to ESPN.com. Close declined to provide further details on the state of his negotiations with the club.

The New York Daily News, citing "sources close to the Jeter/Close camp,'' said Jeter's starting point in negotiations was six years and $150 million, and added that the All-Star shortstop hasn't budged from that $25 million a year figure.

A subsequent Newsday report characterized the six-year, $150 million report as excessively high, but provided no specifics on what Jeter is asking for in talks.

He may be lying but the original source used "sources close to the Jeter/Close camp". Well this is what Close himself has to say.

8. Why not, they've grossly overpaid him all along.
I have no problem with the Jeter wanting the Yankees to continue to grossly overpay him. Given the money they've overpaid some of their other starts who weren't Yankee legends, why shouldn't he expect it?
