My first thought was "Shit, no more 56 years of futility jokes anymore!" What a letdown.

OK, upton, let the Giants win one more before you can brag that they have brought more championships to Cali than the Dodgers. That's Dodgers 2 (1981 and 1988), Giants 1. OK?

Serious now. I'm gonna eat crow right now and say the Giants shocked the whole fuckin' world with what they just accomplished. Because no one, and I mean NO ONE picked them to make the playoffs this year, let alone go all the way. And I was freakin' wrong about Burrell and Huff (well, the guy's name is Aubrey for fuck's sake, I HAD to make fun of him, c'mon!). They brought a lot more to the table than I ever thought they would. But the pitching won this thing for them without a doubt. One of the most impressive team pitching displays (game 3 not withstanding) I've ever seen in the WS. And I mustn't forget Posey and Ross who were just playing out of their fucking minds. They played like they just discovered Barry's stash or something. Kidding!!

Of course, they had some good fortune, too. Such as the Padres tanking at just the right time and the Rockies peaking to early. But I gotta hand it to them, they got the job done. But don't get complacent because the Dodgers will be back next year trying to throw a monkey wrench into any "repeat" plans the Giants may be entertaining. But I'm happiest formost for the city of San Fransico, er, I mean San FranCISco. The greatest city on Earth. The real SF fans, not the pretenders like Cboy.

19. I thought they could make the playoffs

I thought they had just as good as a shot as any NL West team. I'm a Rockies fan so I probably picked them over the Giants but I thought they would be in it til the end. Now San Diego was the surprise team of the NL West to me. I was expecting Rockies, Giants, and Dodgers to be the big 3 in the NL West.

It's going to take awhile for it all to sink in. After so long, you begin to think it will never happen.

The parade on Wednesday is going to be a monster. I wish I could be there. I'm really happy for the people of San Francisco and the Bay Area too. They deserve this after so many years of coming up empty.

Hey, and you were hardly alone in thinking the Giants had no chance. They weren't favored to win the division and then they were underdogs in all 3 series. Team chemistry is often thought to be overrated, but not with the 2010 Giants. These self described "misfits" have tonight become the greatest team in the 52 year history of the San Francisco Giants. Who would have ever thought it?

You know you're shortchanging your Dodgers a few California championships don't you? They've won 5 since moving to LA..Along with '81 and '88, there's 59, '63 and I think '65 or so..Giants have a long way to go to catch up, but they got over a 52 year old hump tonight..

23. I was out & about last night in San Francisco

During the game, I enjoyed a big Taco Truck burrito, a 24-ounce Red Stripe, and a cigar. After the victory, I decided to head out into San Francisco and see whuz wuz up.

Right after the game ended, the Department of Parking and Traffic closed off Mission Street between 23rd and 25th Streets. This was probably a good idea- I'd driven down Mission after Sunday night's victory, and it was vehicle bedlam- but people were celebrating and happy. No danger. Big crowds in the neighborhood.

I took BART down to Civic Center, where they'd bad a big jumbotron set up at City Hall. Huge crowds of ecstatic people, everyone rowdy and noisy, but completely filled with good will towards each other.

I walked down to 5th and Market, where the cops were maintaining order to prevent Market from being closed off. Cars, busses, motorcycles, and a huge SFFD firetruck emblazoned with Giants flags were "running the gauntlet" of whooping, cheering fans. Horns honking, people shouting, sidewalks crowded, cops preventing people from blocking traffic, but not interfering.

I headed up to Union Square, but, surprisingly, it was pretty empty. I encountered a couple from LA with Giants Champions shirts on, trying to get back to their hotel. I helped them on their way, and headed back toward Market.

Market was crowded and noisy. I went to 3rd Street, and headed down toward AT&T Park. Lots of action down there, streets blocked off, young people, men, women, and a few kids. Very rowdy, but everyone cheering, high-fiving, enthusiastic, good-natured, and noisy. Lots of enthusiastic women in the crowd, as well ad Giants-clad guys over-the-top in their enthusiasm. I was stuck by the diversity of those in attendance. Whatever social barriers people have between them, the Giants brought us all together.

After AT&T Park, I headed back up Market to Civic Center. Market was closed to traffic between about 5th Street and 4th Street. There was a big crowd in front of the Old Mint on 5th at Mission. The cops were lined up at 5th and Market, and did a crowd sweep to get people moving and off the Mint steps.

Throughout it all, I was impressed with the smiles, good will, and enthusiasm of everyone, male and female. The cops were great- they let people enjoy themselves; didn't seem to mind the pot fumes in the air, and kept things from getting too violent. I saw 'em making a few people empty out their alcohol, but that's what cops do. I've got no complaints about the SFFD here.

Back on BART to my neighborhood at 24th and Mission. The crowd had pretty well dispersed, but the streets were still closed, and there were lots of cops around. Apparently there had been a bonfire incident, and a car had been pummeled in the neighborhood.

And waking up today, it's like waking up on Christmas morning. Time to relive it all, and soak it all in.

So that's my experience in downtown San Francisco last night. Good people, mellow cops, and the Giants won the World Series over the Bush Rangers. San Francisco values triumph.

although the Rangers really stunk the place up, shockingly. At least the Phillies were competitive in most of their games.
Sometimes teams get really hot and surprise everyone including their fans...One of my good friends who lives in San Fran kept waiting for them to choke and disappoint though...You know your team has a not so great history when even their long time fans keep waiting for them to fail. ;)
