And once again, the umps stink
I have little rooting interest in the MLB Playoffs except to hope the Yankees get beat. And I did not see the Tampa Bay/Texas game, although I did see highlights of the check swing. I am sitting here vwatching the Twins game and the ump very clearly missed the call on Berkman. That was a strike. Period. And it looks like it may in part cost the Twins a victory. We need instant replay in MLB, especially the playoffs. I mean, the games are longer in postseason anyway because of commercials so why not take a little extra time and make sure the calls are correct? Oh wait, it's the Yankees. Never mind.

1. We don't need instant replay...

we need better umpires. Some of these guys are too old. I suppose it's a union thing.

2. Nice post, Scab! It's not the Unions. I suppose you are blaming the teachers, also.

5. I know you are just being typically inflammatory....
but get real, these umpires today suck. And they can't be removed easily.

10. If you have a problem with the umpires, then blame $elig and the owners
of baseball. They are only following the guidelines setup by $elig and his minions.

It is NOT the Union.

3. I don't know why there are so many bad calls
I don't think we necessarily need new umps, and I definitely don't want to replay every pitch. Maybe they should make the strike zone a little more realistic - the way it's designed to be - and we wouldn't be having some of these arguments.

4. where were you complaining last night
when the Yanks right fielder clearly caught the ball but the ump called it a trap. I don't see you complaining about the strike one call to Berkman the same at bat that was about a foot outside. But you wouldn't complain about those calls since they went in favor of the Twins.

6. Did it cost the game?
I've been wondering where you've been. I hope the Rangers clean your clock!

9. It didn't cost the game
because Rivera negated it on the next pitch with his performance. Pavano could have done that, but he failed.

I haven't been around because I've been busy trying to get Democrats elected as their consultant.

7. The best thing that could have happened
would have been for the Twins to come back and win after the bad call in the 9th last night on what was obviously a catch. If they were then to go on and beat NY in the series, the Yankees, their fans, and the media would be focusing on that one bad call and suddenly the idea of instant replay would be taken real seriously. For when the Bankees talk, Selig and everybody else in baseball listen..

Oh, and the btw, the Twins aren't down 2-0 because of bad calls...they just stink.

8. My response
To the argument that instant replay would make the game longer than it would be. I say I'm sure a review would take just as much time for a manager to show an umpire up over a call (which Joe Maddon did earlier), kick some dirt around, and get ejected.

12. 2010: The year of the shitty umps.
I've been watching baseball since 1976, and this is the worst year I can recall for umping.

13. Posey was out on the stolen base just now.
Edited on Thu Oct-07-10 09:55 PM by hughee99
A tough call, but with the benefit of DVR and super slow-mo, he was out.

On edit: that lead to the first run of the game.

14. I dont think it was a tough call at all. He was out by about a foot. And these announcers suck
Edited on Thu Oct-07-10 09:53 PM by MadBadger
They analyzed his awkward slide about five times, and yet they never mentioned the fact that he was clearly out

15. At full speed, I couldn't tell
though I also had a bad angle on the tag, but it was suspect enough that I immediately rewound.
