3. I had turned it off too..
FSC had the replay of last night's US Open Cup Final on.

Nice personal achievement, but that's all it is. Still only counts as one win, and the playoffs are about the team..

10. Don't be daft
You find me some other pitcher who throws a no hitter ( and damn near perfect game) IN HIS FIRST PLAYOFF start. That was a historic performance.

11. Sure it was..
but it was a PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT...or did I miss something and the Phillies get to count Halladay's no hitter as two wins?

13. No but it leaves an impression, psychologically
If you don't think they is not discouraging to a team known for their hitting...? That kind of thing agaisnt a team that hasn't been in the playoffs in forever and is probably a bit unsure of themselves. Yeah- trust me- that feels like two losses.

27. You may be right about that TZ
I'm sure being no hit was tough on the Reds psychologically. Though not too many people have given the Reds much of a chance anyway. However, it's still only 1-0, and my faint hope for a Reds upset is still alive.

17. I'll remember that when a Giants pitcher does well in the postseason.
That's assuming one will.

28. You do that..
oh, I have another fun fact for you: Ubaldo, after achieving a record of 17-2 in early August, went 2-6 in his last 11 starts.

Tough that he fell 1 short of becoming the Rockies first ever 20 game winner, isn't it?

but responding to your childish one word or one line insults has become tiresome. I'm only doing it here so as to inform you why I rarely do it anymore. In the future I hope you'll strive to do better... and if I see an honest effort at improvement, I may reconsider.

23. Exactly! It's not like he was ROBBED of an All-star appearance, because THAT's a big deal.
At least Halliday's performance resulted in a win, and a playoff win at that. You were pissed last year that Panda missed out on the "personal achievement" of making the All Star game, which, one way or the other, would have gotten the Giants ZERO wins.

25. Comparing the playoffs to the All Star game?
And I've already acknowledged that Halladay's no hitter was a great personal achievement and got the Phillies one win, but one win only. Now, if you can show me that it was worth more than that...fine. Otherwise, thanks for playing.

30. So by that yardstick, if Halladay had given up 7 runs in 5 innings, but gotten the win
it would have been basically the same? The win is all that counts, personal achievement, "setting a tone", superior performance in the face of playoff pressure, none of that really matters, just the outcome of the game. If that's the case, are you planning to watch any of the games?

And yes, I'm comparing the playoffs to the All star game and here's why... you were bullshit when Sandoval was robbed of the "personal achievement" of making the All-Star game (and I agree, he should have made it in '09). This is apparently the sort of thing that you had at least some passion about. A playoff no-hitter? Eh, big deal, it's just 1 win. So the all-star game selection process is something that you'll get excited about, but a playoff no-hitter is just a win.

I was watching the game and didn't realize he had a no hitter going until after the game. I admit I wasn't watching the game that close.

9. Happened to me about 7yrs ago
when the Houston Astro's threw a no hitter against the Yankee's, it was a relief pitcher no hitter. I think at the time Oswalt started the first inning or two, and he injured himself, and the relief pitching finished the Yanks off.

I didn't realize the Yanks got no hit until the game was over.

29. Was with a bunch of women at a book club & we watched
We actually STOPPED TALKING and un-muted the game during the 7th inning when we realized he had a no-hitter going.

And believe me, it takes a lot to get us to shut up...
