Giants get Jose Guillen from KC..
The Giants have acquired outfielder Jose Guillen from Kansas City for a player to be named later and cash considerations.

Guillen, 34, was designated for assignment by Royals on August 5. In 106 games with Kansas City this season, he batted .255 with 16 homers. He has struggled lately, however, hitting .183 with three home runs in his past 30 games.

Some people might scoff at this, but folks laughed at the Pat Burrell acquisition too.

1. But Pat Burrell isn't a headcase.
Good luck with this lunatic.

2. Guillen was with the Mariners
a couple years back, was productive too. I'm not concerned about his attitude, because that's where veterans like Huff, Rowand, Burrell, Renteria and Uribe come in. They'll keep him in line. And if Guillen doesn't want to shape up and get with the program, the Giants can just ship him back out..no harm done.

You never know, he could become a valuable right handed bat coming off the bench, as he does hit for power.

6. The Mariners fans I know abhorred him the entire season.

The media in Seattle doesn't know jack...

Mariners fans spent much of 2007 calling for him to go away! And finally he went.

8. He did?
Lets take a look at the stats, instead of the opinion of some blog..

Guillen played one year for the Mariners, 2007:

BA: .290

HR: 23

RBI: 99

OBP: .353

SLG: .460

That's nowhere near sucking.

Guillen is not a good defensive outfielder, but he is productive offensively. Which is exactly what I claimed in my post that you have taken issue with..

9. If you suck in the outfield, you should hit far better than that.

He's typically been below average as a hitter for his position. Add that to his disposition, and his history of drug use, and there's no reason a team that's close to the playoffs should trade for him.

There is a reason the Mariners didn't re-sign him, and there's a reason that no team with a payroll to contend signed him.

The number 2 bust:

A little memory from that season:

Note: His combined WAR for 2007 was something like 2.5, but that's only because it doesn't include the need for defense at Safeco. In 2008, his combined WAR was at O.1, and in 2009 it was -1.7. He had a -0.4 WAR in his short time with the Giants.

veteran manager, veteran clubhouse. There will be no dissension or he'll be gone. Anyway, what do you care now that you've dumped the Rockies?

7. I guess the cash considerations were roids. The Giants are quite familiar
with those. A call to BALCO and all was taken care of.

10. The Giants did leave him off the postseason roster, neck injury or not
