The Pistons are the only blue-state team left
combine that with their working-class ethic, and you have a winner!

I encourage all of you who don't have a team left to root for the Pistons.

3. I will root for the Pistons
unless the Suns win the Western Conference finals.

In which case, I will be thrilled that my two favorite teams will play for the championship.

(Former Piston Joe Dumars is still my favorite player ever. I grew up in Michigan, now live in AZ and am working to turn this state blue)

5. No, *I'm * sorry!
I watched them play the Sonics. How can you root for them? They are thugs and they travel almost every single play. And they get all the calls.

7. Thugs? THUGS?!
Ask around, you'll find the Spurs to be one of the more well-respected teams in the league. If Ray Allen wouldn't have stepped on his own two feet, he wouldn't have gotten hurt.

As for traveling, EVERYONE travels. Traveling isn't called in the NBA until you've taken your 5th step, and sometimes not even then.

Thugs...

9. I know. It's excessively annoying.
WHY don't they call it?

BTW, Ray Allen wasn't the only one who was hurt. The Sonics were basically down three guys.

10. That's true. The Sonics were really hurt.
That sucks. It would have been nice to see the series with both teams at full strength.

I believe that traveling is not called because the league wants offense, and not ticky-tack violations.

Miami, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe counties, all which comprised South Florida, were all blue.

Go Heat!

13. Mr. and Mrs. Gregg Popovich both maxed out for Edwards

Plus, the Spurs have a star player who hails from France, the right wing's most hated country.

Go Spurs!

14. That would be Gregg Popovich, USAF Academy graduate and veteran.
Nice to see he and I had the same taste in primary candidates.

15. amazing, isn't it?
And did someone upthread call the Spurs thugs because they pushed back against the Seattle SuperGoons? Amazing.

BTW, is anyone else feeling a bit of schadenfreude watching George Karl do studio commentary on ESPN about the Spurs/Suns series?

16. Since Karl is a former Spur, I cut him a little slack.
He's still an over-rated coach because his teams never win anything.

He needs to lose the old school uniforms though. Not good with the suit.

By the way, the record when scoring over 100 is now 35-2. :D

17. I quit cutting him slack
when he kicked off the "Ginobili is a flopper" campaign. Particularly pathetic was when he blamed it on Ginobili's hair. Have you seen a pic of Karl in his playing days?

I agree he's wildly overrated. Up there with JVG and Brown, IMO.

I can't wait to see what adjustments Coach Of the Year D'Antoni makes for the next game. Since he wasn't able to actually make any adjustments that worked between games 1 and 2, maybe the three day break will help.

Yeah, I don't think he deserved it for a second. Should have been either Pop or Rick Carlysle.

I'm just sick of all the praise being heaped on Phoenix because they realised what teams have always known: If you run and gun during the regular season, you can run up a nice regular season record. Remember when Karl did it up in Seattle? And then in Denver the second half of the season? And then there's *allas.

D'Antoni was different because he claimed it would work in the playoffs. Yeah, against the right matchups. Welcome to San Antonio, though, Mike.

So, in essence, I don't think Nash, Mike, or the GM deserved their awards. Should have gone to Iverson, Pop or Carlysle, and someone else for GM. Buford's got a good case to make; he's locked up the core for San Antonio through the end of the decade. Drafted another great euro, made that awesome Nazr trade, picked Barry, signed Manu and Parker. Who had a better off-season?
