According to a new Harris poll ranking America’s favorite baseball teams, the San Francisco Giants are the 7th most popular team in the nation --- and rank better than the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The survey, released Monday by Harris Interactive, surveyed 2,227 adults online between June 14 and June 21. The New York Yankees were first followed by the Boston Red Sox (2nd) and Atlanta Braves (3rd).

Rounding out the top 10 after Atlanta are the Philadelphia Phillies (4th), Chicago Cubs (5th), New York Mets (6th), Dodgers (8th), Minnesota Twins (9th) and St. Louis Cardinals (10th).

The Toronto Blue Jays were ranked last.

A lot of great Giants fans out there.

Oh, I almost forgot..the Rockies are tied for 20th with the Orioles, Pirates 25th, Nationals 27th, and the woeful Marlins 29th.

3. I bet you wouldn't be talking that way
if the Pirates were even on the radar. I mean, 25th?

At least they have one saving grace....they're ahead of the Marlins.

4. "At least they have one saving grace...." Yes they do.
They have won a championship for their city. Five, if you need to ask.

5. Ancient history..
the once proud Pirates franchise is no more. Whatever that is that plays in PNC Park bears little resemblance to those Pirate teams of the past...and until you get new ownership nothing is going to change.

What a drag it must be starting every season knowing your favorite club has absolutely no chance at all. Fuck, they don't even compete. Pirates fans need to demand a winner...can't blame everything on Selig.

13. You're right, upton. It is ancient history.
Going back to New York. Sad that a team cannot win a championship for the city that they went running to with their tail between their legs!

Too easy!

6. Wow--- that is your standard?
A Harris poll?

They should poll the same people and ask them why the Giants continue to fail year in and year out from winning a championship?

A} Because they suck

B) Because they suck

C) Because they suck

18. Dude--- you embarrass yourself with shit like this...
Edited on Tue Jul-13-10 07:04 AM by trumad
First: You're a member of the "Dumb Motherfuckers club" for believing that Barry Bonds didn't use steroids during his record home run seasons...

Second: You constantly talk attendance as if that proves how great your team is.

Third: Now you're talking popularity as if that means something.

It's funny--- you rip the Cowboys constantly but a 2009 Harris poll says they rank number one in popularity. That's 6 spots better than your team.

I can see it with the Cowboys---they did win 4 Superbowls... but the Giants who have never won anything in SF, that's funny.

24. Hey---LeBron by all accounts has been an outstadning citizen
while in Cleveland and keeps his nose clean.

You worship one of the most steroid addled athletic figures in the history of sports.

You worship him so much that to this day you claim that BB never used Roids during his record home run years.

You and your alter rose to fame here because your unwavering worship of Barroid.

And you've got the fucking nerve to bash LeBron.

Douche personified.

14. Not collusion
NASCAR fan is right, all the big money winning clubs are at the top. Yankees, Red Sox one-two, no wonder... they outspend everybody and get all the attention. It's just bandwagon BS.

Still, I thought it noteworthy that the Giants have now moved ahead of the Dodgers and everybody else in the NL West...maybe this is an omen.

15. Do they get all the attention because they outspend everybody
Edited on Mon Jul-12-10 10:39 PM by hughee99
or can they afford to outspend everybody because they get all the attention? A big market with a lot of fans means more TV revenue. What are the owners supposed to do, pocket the money and go cheap on the players? If you want a reason to give the Marlins a hard time, how about the fact that they are continually the most profitable team in baseball, they are major recipients of revenue sharing, and don't seem to put those profits back on the field for their fans.

The Giants have a lot of dedicated fans who come to the game and watch on TV. This generates a lot of revenue for the team. Don't they owe it to the fans to put that money to good use and give the fans a better team?

20. Giants are competitive virtually every year..
Sure, as everyone likes to remind me, they haven't won a title for sometime, but they're almost always still in the race in Sept...and really, outside of that elusive WS Championship, what more can a fan ask for?

The Giants payroll is almost 100 million..I believe that's good for 10th in MLB. Plus, they make an annual mortgage payment of some 20 mil on AT&T Park, one of the finest if now THE finest park in baseball,...which they built themselves, without hassling taxpayers. Overall, I think the Giants have done a great job for their fans..

22. I agree with your assessment of the Giants.
If the Giants brought in an extra 10 or 20 million, should they try to use that to get the best players available?

23. Most of us are out of HS last I checked
and think that popularity contests are silly and immature and UNIMPORTANT. Do you really think I give a fuck that the Nationals aren't popular? Screw that. I think it takes more character to be a fan of an unpopular team btw. Its easy to be a Yankees fan. Yay for bandwagon jumpers. I wouldn't give a damn if my team was dead last in attendence and likeability. Don't care what anyone else things about things I like. And anyone who is an independent thinker should feel the same way.
