Group A: Mexico-Uruguay *** France-South Africa
Edited on Mon Jun-21-10 11:05 PM by Renew Deal
This is the final set of first round games for Group A. Here are the scenarios.

Uruguay 4
Mexico 4
France 1
South Africa 1

Uruguay and Mexico both go through with a tie or a France-South Africa tie.

Winner of Uruguay-Mexico wins the group. If tied, Uruguay wins group.

Loser of Uruguay-Mexico can still go through with better goal differential than winner of France-SA (if there is one).

France and South Africa both need to win to go through, and someone loses the Uruguay-Mexico game, and France or SA winner have better goal differential than loser of other game. (France -2, SA -3).

France and South Africa are both eliminated with a tie.

1. Both playing at the same time tomorrow...
Not sure if I want to watch the Mexico-Uruguay game, which I think they will be playing to a draw; or watch the continuing French Implosion featuring the South African Vuvuzela Symphony Orchestra.

2. I don't know why they would play to draw.
The top team likely gets an easier route, and that's quite important.

3. Top team probably doesn't have to play Argentina
So I agree. It would also be terrible to have two S. America teams face each other in the final 16.

5. French misery continues (Red Card)
Goucuff was properly sent off for elbowing a guy in the face. It might have been an accident, but it was dangerous!

6. I just saw that on the live text...
if it was an accident then that seems harsh.

7. The call was correct.
I'm just saying that he didn't line him up, but he used his elbow as a weapon.

9. Accidental contact is not usually cause for a red card.
2-0 now...

10. Intent is not a part of the rules.
All the ref can judge is what happened.

8. 1-0 Uruguay, 2-0 South Africa
South Africa either needs two more goals, or -2 against Mexico, or 1 more goal and 1 against Mexico.

11. Florent Malouda's goal for France has made things much harder for SA.

Well that's it then.

I'm very sad for South Africa. And so very mad at the French team. x(

14. They switched to a 4-4-1
Malouda did far, far better than the horrific Gignac.
