2. Yes. You've just scored a goal in the most significant sporting event on the planet.
You've done it in front of the largest television audience imaginable. Run and dance and celebrate as much as you can possibly manage! :woohoo:

10. Are you really
That ignorant? The popularity of the World Cup DWARFS anything in the US. Audience for a SB- 180 million or so. Audience for the World Cup- said to be approximately 1.3 BILLION. Despite what you and a bunch of talk show gasbags think the US isn't the center of the universe.

More people tune into the World Cup Final than the Super Bowl, simply because soccer is a worldwide sport.

However, FIFA's claim that more than 1 billion people tune into the World Cup final is exaggerated.

According to a 2007 article in the UK newspaper The Independent, "Fifa's overblown figures, the World Cup finals of 1998, 2002 and 2006 respectively attracted global audiences of 1.3 billion, 1.1 billion and 715.1 million people... According to Initiative Sports Futures, independent analysts with no ties to Fifa, the figure for the 2006 final was 260 million in the 54 key markets it surveyed, accounting for 90 per cent of the world's TV households." (See Related links for full article.)

Even so, at 260 million, the World Cup final had more viewers than the 2006 Super Bowl.

Hell---in 2010, 106 million watched the SB in the US alone... Am I saying it matches the WC---nope--- but I am saying your figures are full of shit.

14. Uh I work ith a whole bunch of people
From international countries. I know that the world cup IS the biggest event in the world. Stop being an ugly ignorant American. My colleagues from Africa, Asia, and Europe are quite knowledgeable about FIFA. But they are all naturalized citizens, they know less about FIFA than you right Trumad? :eyes:

22. You're basing that on the source of your choice.

Close to 17 million watched the final in the US alone, and that's got nothing to do with FIFA claims. So that 260 million worldwide number seems way off, if you're using critical thinking.

This piece offers numbers that are closer to reality: http://www.worldamazingrecords.com/2010/06/fifa-world-cup-south-africa-2010-final.html

Interestingly, they don't include viewers outside of the home, and that likely makes the numbers quite a bit lower than reality.

13. It's a lot harder to score a goal in this game than in others...
which is why the scores are so low.

So yes, they do have to celebrate. Especially in this tournament.

4. Well, at least it only happens once, maybe twice a game.
Imagine if they did that everytime there was a score in a real sport.

:D

6. Are you one who complains about the lack of goals?
I hope not

a goal in a World Cup is a huge deal. They will be asked and talk about it for the rest of their lives.

17. World Cups were barely televised before 1978
I heard on NPR that the pentagon balck and white ball that we all know as the standard ball design was created FOR the 1978 World Cup- it showed spin better for TV watching. 1978 was the first time it was televised to any noticeable extent in Europe... which we all know is the market that every pays attention to (as if South America, Asia, and Africa don't exist)
