5. Gonna invest half a hunj on exotics.

I've included Super Saver. I'm leaning toward keying Zito's horses (Ice Box & Jackson Bend) 1-2, like you, on a hunch.

ETA: My theory? Zito + Derby + off-track = $$$$$$$

7. Too chalky for my tastes.

Louie, Sidney and Awesome are gonna be the top 3 picks if I'm reading this race correctly. I'm gonna toss 1 & 20. I think they may be a false favorites--Beyer #'s not great, polytrack runners...If "Louie" or "Sidney" beats me, so be it. PP's also show "Louie's" jock finds trouble pretty consistently, Baffert was FURIOUS with Gomez in his last. 20 horse field, I figure both are looking at a WORLD OF HURT unless they outsprint the MULTITUDE of other speed horses all looking to do the same thing--find the right spot...in the slop...on a surface they're mostly unfamiliar with...at a distance they've never run before...in a 20 horse field.

"Awesome" is the NOW horse and will be undervalued, but should get a good stalking position so I'll use him in my exotics. His last, the Wood, he had excuses--he lost a shoe after stumbling at the start. But Zito's horse, Jackson Bend, outgamed him and held the place spot behind Eskenderaya.

I like Ice Box. Despite the 6 week layoff, he's got three 9 furlong races this spring. Check out his Fla Derby where he came from the clouds--despite not changing leads in the stretch. Class is his main question, but he's bred up the wahzoo both sides: http://www.pedigreequery.com/ice+box2 I just have a gut feeling that Zito's been hiding this horse's true potential and that last workout jumps out at me--I think he'll stalk the leaders and can get a decent trip from the 2 hole.

Racing luck figures HEAVILY in ANY Derby, this one even more so. It's gonna be decided by who gets a clean trip from off the pace, IMHO.

9. There's no such thing as chalk right now
The favorite is 8-1.

I still like the consistent class of Lookin at Lucky and Noble's Promise. When a duo finishes together so often it tends to transfer to the higher stage.

Mostly, I hope it's a monsoon, a circus race and memorable in that regard for decades. I don't want to invest days envisioning brutal conditions and then be dealt the letdown of merely an off track.

10. Depends on your POV, I guess.
Your point is well taken, however anything short of double digit odds in this type of race is chalky to me.

12. Not if you don't like him.
I could be wrong, but I only used him 2nd & 3rd in exotics.

13. "Lucky" & Gomez had a rough trip.
I'm SHOCKED I tells ya. So much for "fucking a great play".

My horse was a BLUR at the end. TONS the best. I had $5 bucks Win-Place, plus a $2 exacta part back wheel with Ice box 2nd so I made about a buck and a quarter.

Racing luck SUCKS.
