Browns Tackle Shaun Rogers arrested for gun possession -- at the airport

April 2, 2010 / Associated Press

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Browns nose tackle Shaun Rogers was arrested Thursday at Hopkins International Airport after a loaded gun was found in his carry-on luggage.

Rogers, who had been at the team's suburban training facility in recent days taking part in a voluntary offseason program, was stopped at a security checkpoint on Concourse C when officials spotted a loaded .45-caliber handgun in his bag, police said in a statement.

He was arrested at 12:15 p.m. "without incident," transferred to a downtown processing center and booked for carrying a concealed weapon, a third-degree felony.

Beyond his legal problems, Rogers, arguably the Browns' best player, will likely face league penalties if it is determined he violated the NFL's player-conduct policy.

5. Not true
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick won't face criminal charges over a suspicious bottle he tried to bring through security at Miami International Airport.

Lab tests on the bottle, which contained a hidden compartment that police suspected may have contained marijuana, found no evidence of drugs, according to a memo Monday by Deisy Rodriguez, an assistant state attorney.

"Based on the lab's findings, the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office is not filing criminal charges," Rodriguez said in the memo, adding the bottle is no longer considered evidence in an investigation.

Over the weekend, league sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that Vick would be cleared.

As to the OP. If 100% true he had to forget it was on him. No way can I imagine anyone trying to sneak one on when he could have simply declared the firearm at one of the ticket and luggage check-in booths.

7. No
Airport security seized it from him because they thought it the hidden compartment smelled like cannabis. If he did throw it away what difference does it make if there was nothing in it?

4. Did Barry Switzer know better?

9. Browns, Pitt and Cincy take those inter-division rivalries seriously.
The Browns weren't going to let the Steelers and Bengals out-do them, even on a police blotter. Look for the Ravens to get involved soon.
