3. Do you mean gold eye shadow?
Update, 4:26 p.m. ET: While waiting for the last three racers to come down the course before her victory can be declared official, the TV cameras catch Vonn applying makeup near the finish. When Vonn notices the camera, viewers can see her mouthing the words, "Oh, c'mon."

I get the feeling she belongs to that school of athlete who always has to act as if her victories are always despite some huge obstacle put in her path. It doesn't seem to be enough for some people to just win. They want some excuse in hand in case they lose.

4. I don't get that vibe from her at all...
I've seen her give quite a few victory interviews lately (she's a wicked good skier and the FIS world cup is on Universal Sports) and she always seems pretty gracious about it.

5. Maybe it's just particular to this Olympics
In fact, I was listening to ESPN radio the other night, and the guy that had on (some late night guy) said he'd never thought there was a second's chance she wouldn't ski.

I don't know enough about her to know whether this is typical behavior for her, though it's a syndrome you see in a lot of top flight athletes.

12. Errrr.....try Michal Jordanitis
he's the first one I remember who always seemed to have "the flu" during big games. There's not one histrionic thing Brett did that he didn't learn at the knees of Michael Jordan, including his "will I retire or won't I" meme......

Another sufferer from this is Serena Williams. Has she EVER lost a match when there wasn't something wrong with her? Did she ever lose to someone who just played better than Serena did that day?

14. Yeah, yeah, I thought of that as I typed it
Be that as it may, Michael Jordan is the first athlete I remember who had a built-in excuse ready in case he didn't win. He also was one of the first to endlessly retire. Whether or not you like Brett Favre (I'm on the fence, don't really care) his retirement shenanigans are very Michael-esque.

11. Being decorative is a highly valued trait in female athletes. Hence the camera's love for
Julie Foudy, Peggy Fleming...etc.

9. Seemed more like orgiastic joy to me.

I'm sure she realized she'd podiumed, but I think she was equally happy that she got down in once piece on a bag leg where healthy others had crashed.

Seems like a year ago when I said to Vonn was someone to keep an eye on...oh, wait, it WAS a year ago...if you'll be charitable enough to ignore the "Tiger Woods on skis" reference...

15. Lindsey Vonn just spun out
Lindsey Vonn just spun out in the GS too. It took several minutes to extricate her from the fence.

But at the end of the line, it seems. Tough break for her.

Ahh, not at the end of the line. She's going again in a few minutes.
